Vanishing posts.

Postby AlmostThere » Thu Mar 24, 2011 12:49 pm

Jus thought I'd share my findings.

I lost my morning post and it's getting so aggravating. I know allot of others are having the vanishing post issue, too. I posted that it seemed that it started when the ads at the top of the page showed up, but Beth assured me it wasn't the culprit.

After losing my post just now, on the page I got next, it gave me the option to refresh, which someone suggested to use, so I clicked on it. Well, I got a "pop-up" blocker saying it 'couldn't refresh' and an option to 'ask for more details', which I clicked on. It seems the Camping World ad IS the culprit. At least on my computer. I did give permission for the pop up ad in my settings, so we'll see if that will solve the issue.

Lenora, I copy every post to be on the safe side just in case I lose it.

I have posted 3 times and lost it on the morning thread. Tried saving and then posting, didn't work. I was more then aggravated and glad I am not the only one having problems. I'm not that knowledgeable on the computer at times, and thought it was just me, which aggravated me more.

I usually only post on the morning thread, but can't deal with the aggravation right now, to many other things to deal with. Glad to have the opportunity to let everyone know, I am not ignoring you all, and Maggie and I, did have a FABULOUS camping trip. I do hope this will post.

I also have been losing posts, including my first on this morning on the coffee thread (forgot to save  ). When I hit "Submit", it goes to a page that says "OOPS, this page appears to be broken". It happens about every 4th time I post a message on here. I need to remember to copy my posts so I can try it again without having to retype the whole thing. Sometimes I really don't want to go thru that!

Most "vanishing" posts occur if you are posting at the same time as someone else. In that case, you'll get a screen that tells you someone else posted.

Other times it happens because of something on your computer. And it can happen due to a slow/bad connection and many other reasons.

That said - there is no pop-up on the CW ad. None. No pop-up on any of the ads. So you shouldn't need to add to allow pop-ups. That said, the screen you are mentioning here Lenora, that you got, is one your computer provided - based on settings on your computer. I and the site have no control over those. But it's very strange it's saying that about pop-ups. You can even set things on some computers to not see the ads at all.

If you get an error code from this forum - would like to know about it - like when the forum goes down etc. And I'll keep watching what's happening.

If you are using a laptop (can happen with desktops, but more common with laptops) you can lose posts and all kinds of things just by how you rest your wrist. I learned to use a mouse instead of the piece that acts like a mouse on the laptop - and that will solve many problems that are caused by where your hand rests, etc. I used to lose posts, pages, everything - using a real mouse stopped that. None of that was a problem on my Dell laptop - but was a big, big problem on my Toshiba. And can be on any depending on how the laptop is set-up.

Sorry any of you are having trouble with posting. And Carol, don't you give up!!!!

Perhaps my computer is seeing the Camping World ad as a pop up? Just a thought...

the morning post seems to be the only time I loose a post. Other post I respond to on here, no problem. But I enjoy writing on the morning thread from time to time and have NEVER had any problems until lately and only there. I've read others have lost post from time to time but I never have, now I do and I always get this page telling me, the web site is busy. This morning after my second try, thought I might try this afternoon, but this topic gave me a chance to let everyone know I have not disppeared, that Maggie and I, did make it back down off that mountain

If its my problem here, not sure what or how I will know it, its the only place I loose a post, my email , no matter how long I am on or taking to compose my thoughts , I never loose anything,or on FB. I am using my desktop, and loosing post, is a very new thing for me and couldn't happen at a worse time, less patience right now and I don't like allowing myself to get so aggravated or upset over something, but this morning, almost did it, I am ashamed to say.

I will be lurking around here, but may wait awhile before testing the morning thread to see if my post stays or not.

Hope everyone has had a good day. Mine turned out great, right after I lost the last try at the morning post, my son called, which he doesn't that often, makes twice this week, and he laughed at me because he could tell I was aggravated. He said it was good for me, riled the blood up and energized my system.  Had me laughing, and that helps add more time to my life, so they say.

Hope your travels were good today, Beth.

Yes, I tend to agree with Beth. Seems like it's the morning coffee posts that are causing the problem. I copy mine before I post and nine out of ten times will lose my post on the first try. I have not had any problems posting elsewhere.

I've lost a few on the Campfire thread as well. It seems to have just started in the last few weeks or so for me, and I am doing nothing different. So I will try to remember to copy first!

I have never lost a post, I shouldn't say that, until this week. This morning I have had no trouble, but then I am on way earlier then I usually get on here. I always get the web is busy notice. I have submitted and had someone beat me to it, but just always submitted again and no problem. I might just have gotten on when it was way to busy for my server. I have no idea what I am talking about, but its been nice to post and not loose it this morning. Just had an idea to post earlier and see what happened and it worked.
Later in the day yesterday, no problem either. So I will leave mid morning alone, I don't like to be aggravated

Have a Really Great Day everyone !!!

I just got a "web is busy" after trying to send a PM, so it seems it's not just the morning section.

It happened to me again tonight on the Campfire thread. It seems to be the longer posts, so maybe that has something to do with it. Luckily, I did copy it and it took the second time.

There definately seems to be a correlation between long posts and the disappearing act, at least for me. My shorter posts are fine, but the longer ones I post to Morning Coffee and Campfire, always go poof when I submit! Luckily, I have been remembering to copy them first so I can go back and resend them right away, which seems to work then. Maybe someone is trying to tell me I am too long-winded!
