I retired from the government last year so "back-up" was a constant mantra beat into us. I still back up. Last year I did a several month trip in the RV. Had my new laptop along and had all my contacts, bookmarks, etc loaded onto a flashdrive ready to roll. I do a monthly newsletter for a professional organization so I also had several back issues loaded on the flashdrive. Managed to get the newest version of Microsoft Office Professional with the Publisher feature all loaded up onto the new laptop before I left and planned to load up the other info first chance since I ran out of time before I left. First time I started to work on the newsletter, I brought out the flashdrive--nothing, nada, fried, dead. Never, ever had that happen with a flashdrive. What a nightmare, had to set up a whole new format for the 12 page newsletter and then, of course, had to do hours of research and input work to re-establish my contacts file so I could send the newsletter out. Never again. Now I have the contacts, bookmarks, etc., online so I can reach them from wherever from anyone's computer. Just a thought--especially since it is free.
RetiredHappy, so glad your mishap with the laptop ended up well. Could have happened to anyone. I have small dogs that like to jump up in my lap so a glass of wine or even coffee spill could happen at any time. It will be interesting to see if you end up using the laptop or notebook more often. Small is nice!! But the laptop has more power and space.
