Glass blowers in Tonala

Postby asirimarco » Sat Mar 12, 2011 4:23 pm

Have posted some updates to my blog
http://mexicobymotorhome.blogspot.com
one about the fiasco with my cousins clothes another about the glass blowers in the town of Tonala - also pictures of a lot of the stuff for sale in Tonala.
tomorrow we leave guadalajara headed back to mazatlan - a 320 mile drive - which in the US isn't much but here it will make for a long and expensive toll wise day.
will check in when we get settled there if Stanley (the satellite dish) is still cooperating that is. so far he has been behaving.

Great post Carol! Thanks for the pictures and narrative. I enjoyed the link to Maria Sabina about the mushrooms. I bet you were upset when you got the call that you had taken your cousin your clothes instead of his

Interesting stuff about the glass blowers in Tonola. I once spent a very memorable afternoon in Tonola with a group as part of a conference. We were taken by bus to an outdoor restaurant for "lunch" which was supposedly hosted by the mayor. The mayor was busy, so we had to wait for many hours, with no food but unlimited beer and tequilla and a country western band for dancing. We were told we could not be served until the mayor arrived, which was not until 6:00 pm, by which time everyone was pretty well under the influence. I have some great photos of people dancing! The supposedly is because the group/association I was with eventually got a bill for the "lunch."

It was an interesting little town, but we did not have any time for exploring. I've always wanted to go back to some of these places in Jalisco.

This looks like a great area to visit. Pictues are great. Would love to go wander around there areas for awhile and look. I have seen a fountain that was made from a copper type product similiar to the one you have a picture of and it is so very nice. Think I like the colors better. Keep those pictures coming.
