As we sit here in Mexico watching the gas prices going up and up at home we are dreading the trip across the states. Usually we take the shorter (and cheaper - gas is still about US$2.70 a gallon in MX) way home through McAllen, TX but this year decided to go home through AZ because of the problems along the northern MX/TX border. Its about 1000 miles difference - .... maybe we should rethink our plans.

The price of gas is NOT worth your life...take the safest way home...we enjoy your blog to much to have anything happen to you!

That is sooo true & funny. Diesel here in CA is $4.19/ga and continues to go upward.

Gas prices here in Kanab are running $3.68. At the gas station on the reservation about 24mls from here it's $3.34. Guess where everyone who's smart is getting gas? ;)

Thankfully we aren't running the roads as that would put a serious damper on things here......

..

Echo, hope it's not you running those 48 miles (R/T) to get Reservation Gas...

Being the anal one, oh wait - JudyJB calls herself a "Terrible Over-Planner" - I like that better...

So, being the Terrible Over-Planner that I am, I did the math, making a couple of guestimations - 15 MPG and fill a tank with 20 gallons...
The only unknown is the distance to the more expensive gas station (non-Reservation)...

$3.68 x 20 gallons = $73.60

$3.34 x 20 gallons = $66.80 + $10.68 for 48 miles @ 15 MPG = $77.48, or an increase of just over 5%.

Oh, you all must wonder how George has put up with me for 40 years!!!
I question that myself.

I do that figuring all the time. If I'm not going past the lower priced station, I don't make special trips to them. Especiallyl at my 9 1/2 to 10 mpg!

Speaking of which - I've had people tell me that it's cheaper to turn the generator on to run air conditioning than running the dash air. They say the generator uses about 8/10ths of a gallon per hour. By my math - won't go into it here - I would not find it cheaper.

That said - I've seen that pic, too and it's a cute one.

Carol, I've heard some of the TX towns are better than others - but don't go near the border at El Paso. That I know for a fact is bad right now. And I do agree that your lives are way more important than the gas prices!
