Memory Foam Arrived

The memory foam I ordered arrived yesterday. I got the 2" thick. It was like a "Lucy Ricardo" moment when I cut open the vacuumed sealed plastic bag and the foam expanded!

Now I have a question: Does anyone with pets (dogs) ever have problems with them chewing up the foam? I can just envision returning to the RV an finding it in chunks.

I'd have to beat my little beast if she chewed...okay, so maybe I wouldn't beat her. I'd probably just scream at her. Well, maybe not scream at her. I'd probably just remove the foam.

PS: How's the density?

I bought a 2 or 3" foam at Target and put a mattress pad heater and mattress cover over mine Shadow never bothers it... I think you will have it covered so it should be fine...

Ok, got out the packing slip. Pad is XL38 and is 2 1/2".

Mine's 5" thick - and I always keep a fitted sheet or a mattress cover on it - so there's nothing to get to for chewing. Plus you want to protect the foam. If I was doing it again - or next time I buy some - I'll get one of those protectors that zip on - then put the fitted sheet over that. It's about time to replace mine - but haven't decided if I want to replace the foam I have, or get a new foam mattress instead. Decisions, decisions.

It is fun to watch it expand, isn't it?

My foam arrived yesterday too. I had ordered mine from the company that Mitch suggested in a thread from a couple weeks ago; (https://www.buyfoam.com). I needed replacements for the dinette cushions as the ones that came with the RV were just too thin, they gave no support at all and I could feel the frame under my legs and butt. The new ones have the perfect "density", they have the quality I wanted. With www.buyfoam.com you choose which density you want...they offer several selections including "most commonly purchased" so I went with that choice. I worried about that after it was too late and thought maybe I should have ordered "firm" but it turns out they were perfect when they arrived. I am so happy I did that and very grateful to Mitch for having that great suggestion of www.buyfoam.com...thanks again, Mitch.

KD, does your memory foam stink? I left mine laying on the daybed in my spare bedroom, with the door shut. When I walked in there a bit ago it smelled like strong urine. I did notice a little odor yesterday, hence leaving it to air out. I now have left the door opened in hopes it will disapate.

Is this stuff memory foam? I thought it was just plain foam, as in for chair cushions and stuff?

Memory foam always has an odor for a couple of days...just leave it to air out and it'll be fine.

Ya'll just got that small stuff, I went for a full 12 inch mattress. I cut that plastic and talk about expanding. Bear and I making a running leap to get on the bed. Mine came with a zip on cover, so extremely comfortable to sleep on. But hope I never, ever have to replace it, cause I can see me in there with a chain saw hacking that mattress up to get it out the door.

But sure don't think you should have an odor, if you do something is wrong with the foam.

The foam I bought is not "memory" foam, it's just regular foam for my seat cushions. Of course, regular foam comes in levels of quality and density and the RV company had used the cheapest and least dense made... so I had to replace it with quality foam from www.buyfoam.com.

As for my bed, as soon as I got the RV I did replace that cheap mattress with 8" memory foam that I ordered on line from Walmart... it had an odor when it arrived that dissipates in a couple days...I left it out for several days so it could air out and fully expand.I also put an eggshell cover over it then put the works in a zip up mattress cover...it's very comfy. BUT, if you have tons of money and price is no object...the finest of the finest memory foam is "Tempurpedic", wow, that is fantastic...Just before my husband and I divorced we had bought a new Tempurpedic mattress and I miss that more than anything. I can't even describe how wonderful they are...my memory foam from Walmart for $200 is ok. but no comparison to Tempurpedic.

I would recommend covering the foam. A few years back my xh and I were taking our first load out to the 'old' mh we had bought and had just spent a few thousand dollars for repairs. It was raining and we opened the door to see water pouring out of the cabinets. We were so disappointed and mad  as this was what the work was supposed to fix. I turned on my heels with my load, opened the front door of the house, walked to the bedroom and found our new foam mattress in shreds compliments of our recently adopted dog. I had left it uncovered not thinking she might jump up on the bed. While on the subject, I am not a lover of select comfort or sleep number. We bought it for my back and it was the worst mattress I have ever slept on. My favorite was ordered for an RV from camping world and came in the small tube. I said this would never work as it couldn't be over an inch thick but when it was opened it started expanding and turned into a real mattress, amazing. It was very comfortable.
KD, Did the glass of wine turn over when you jumped up and down on the temperpedic :D

One more vote for the zippered cover! Mine came with one, and the dogs have never bothered it at all (as opposed to the down comforter my schnauzer ripped open and had a field day with the 2nd day after I bought it!). The foam does have a bit of an odor at first, I just hit mine with a little febreze and that did the trick.

Thanks so much for the warning Lenora, as I haven't opened my latex topper yet ! I bought it about a month ago, eagerly preparing for our first trip in April. Do you ladies think it will be ok to leave it as is until April ? We haven't taken possession of our TT yet and I really don't want to have to roll it back up to haul it to the trailor.
