My RV "Hope Chest"

Postby JudyJB » Wed Mar 02, 2011 1:48 pm

While I am still two years away from being able to retire and buy a motorhome, I have decided to start an RV "Hope Chest"--mostly because I am a terrible over-planner!

So, I found the pan set Getupingo recommended--online and on sale. I bought it and have it sitting in a corner of my closet. (They look like really nice pans and the covers make them into storage bowls, as well, so I am very happy with them.) I've also been reading all the kitchen gear recommendations, and have added a lot of them to my Amazon Shopping List where they will stay until I decide to buy them. They also will eventually go into my closet.

This is not only fun to plan, but makes me feel as if I am taking some positive steps to making all this happen.

I'd appreciate any other suggestions from time to time as any of you think of them.

Thanks
JudyJB

Judy, sounds like your plan is starting to come together. Soon you will have a closet full of RV stuff and will just have to "empty" that closet. :D Me thinks you will have a RV sooner than you plan. All is good. Linda

Smart move - you should have everything you'll need when the time comes. Just make sure the items WE like are things YOU'll use :) I bought all kinds of things because others liked them that I ended up giving away. So now I pay attn to if it's something I really think I'll use. I don't have the kind of money to be buying things I don't use (or the space!).

I hear ya Beth...went to Amazon and put that egg cooker on my wish list...and then thought about it while I was in Walmart today..and said to self...self, you don't eat hard boiled eggs that often and you don't mind boiling them when you do, why in the world would you get that? So now it's off the wish list, and a Melita 1 cup coffee cone is on, 'cause I can't find the one I had and I've cut down my coffee drinking from 1-2 pots a day to 1-2 cups a day. Couldn't find it at Wally's...they sure have cut down on what they carry. Starting to hate that store. May have to switch to Target.

Wish we lived closer, I'd give you my 1 cup Melita. ;) I find the coffee turns cold before it gets done dripping and I guess I'm just use to my little 4 cup Mr Coffee. :D

As for the egg cooker. I do like eggs but find I haven't the patience for waiting for the water to boil and then timing the eggs etc (just call me lazy   ). Also I never know exactly how the eggs will turn out either as I like mine a bit undercooked. So I think I'll be pleased with the purchase after a few practice trials. (that's what I'm telling myself).

Thanks for the offer Lenora. If you did live closer, you might find yourself in your rv more often! Evie and I would push and shove until we got you out! LOL!

I don't know what they are talking about either when I make my eggs I have a thingy (don't we love love that term when we don't know the name of what we are referring to?) anyway you put it into the water with the eggs and you can see the "egg" cooking it has sections/lines so you know where you are in the cooking of the egg...makes a lot of sence doesn't it? where did I find it don't know either place like wal mart or perhaps a cooking store see them more about Easter time
and I will have to agree it's hard to find what you want at Wally world

"Thingy" reference made me remember a bridal shower for my cousin's daughter-in-law-to-be I went to several years ago. Her sister was writing down who got her what as she opened gifts, however, sister had obviously never cooked in her life.

When bride looked at list later, it was full of "yellow thingy with handle", "dish thingy", "measuring thingy", or just plain "thingy." Bride had a terrible time writing thank you notes!!

Okay, all - I love my egg thingy! I bought mine in WalMart for $9.99 a couple of years ago. You may have to hunt to find it and some Wally's may not have it at all. Kitchen shops might. On-line works if you like to go that route. I kept asking sales clerks who would look at me with blank stares until I described a large plastic-looking egg with an inside rack. Lightbulbs would go on if they carried it.

Works like a charm once you figure out the times your particular microwave (and wattage) needs. I even cook just one soft boiled egg in it when I'm in the mood for a soft boiled egg. I also fill it with 4 eggs to have hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator for potato salad, egg salad, etc. in summer. Shells never crack, either.
