Tomorrow is the big day - we actually drive to Texas. Our time for visiting family is coming to an end. Tomorrow morning we will have breakfast with Ron's aunt & uncle and then get on the road. Our goal is to be on the road around 10:30 in the morning. We will be traveling from McNeal to ???? We know we can make it pass El Paso - and Nancy we have your directions for getting around El Paso...we are just praying we don't miss the turn and end up in Mexico...okay I am praying that.

It is about 300 miles to El Paso from McNeal, we will start looking for a place to stay for the night once we are outside of El Paso. Does anyone have any good ideas of where to stop for the night. We are open to boondocking or finding a campground...suggestions either way would be great.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Ali

Hi Ali, its been ages since I've been out in that area, so have no suggestions, just wanted to wish you all safe travels. I'm glad that you all seem to be really enjoying your trip. Keep us posted.

Safe and Happy travels,
CArol :)

Ali, Once you are east of El Paso, you don't have much of anything for about 100 miles to Van Horn.

You would be better off to stop at the American RV Park at the Anthony, TX Camping World. That way you could go back North on I-25 about 3-4 miles to the turn off to go around EP. But if you can leave that park at 6 a.m. you can drive right thru EP fairly easy. Hope you get this before you take off from AZ.

Hope this helps.

Ali, exit 138 in Van Horn TX is the Eagles Nest RV park. Exit 144 a rest area you can overnight at, Exit 212 an RV park (Balmorrea, TX Saddleback Mtn RV PK is a passport America park), exit 233 another rest area with free wifi, exity 264 in Ft Stockton (FtStockton RV Park on your left). I've stayed at all of these. Its a really long drive between Van Horn, TX and Fort Stockton, TX. Exit 140a eastbound has a Exxon/Pilot gas station and propane. The KOA here in Kerrville has gas/diesel and propane. The gas/diesel is a few cents higher than in town but no traffic to worry about. I often boondock at the reststops on Hwy 10 but you do have to put up with the trucks all night which for some reason never seems to bother me much.

Thank you all for your suggestions and advice. We arrived in Van Horn at the Eagles Nest RV Park about 6:50 tonight. We were both ready to stop for the night and thought since it was so early we would stop where we would have electrical hook ups and some TV. It was only $29 with tax so that is not too bad.

Am so glad to be IN Texas. Tomorrow we will make our way to the KOA in Kerrville and stay two nights there. Want to do some grocery shopping and some cleaning in the motor home.

Talk to y'all soon. Ali
