Ok, sitting at the dinette playing on computer last nite around 7:30. Heard the sound of water gushing. Never a good sign. Ran to back of rig and found the back of the toilet was spewing water. Ran outside and disconnected water hose. So spent the night without any water. Fortunately I had two big bottles of water to use to flush, etc but no shower. This AM my RV guy, Chris, comes over at 9am, looks at toilet and says area around fitting is cracked so off I go the Gibsons and buy a new toilet - OMG $289.00 with tax - what is it made of? Gold? No plastic. Am currently waiting for Chris to come back and install it WITH A SHUTOFF VALVE so if it ever happens in the future I can turn off JUST the toilet not the entire RV.

Oh, the joy of having an RV. Shouldn't complain - houses too, can cost a lot of money for repairs.

My printer also decided to crash and I've spent two days on and off line trying to fix. Guess I'm gonna have to get a new one since mine is about 3 years old and of course, obsolete.

That's an expensive terlett! I didn't know there was no shut off valve. Do any have them? I'll go look at mine. Dang.

Still no printer, huh? That blurb I sent you didn't help? Give me the model, okay? I'll look around more.

oh no is right, what an expensive commode. Mine had a little leak too before I put it in
storage, its on the list for repair when I get it out and I also taped a note to the lid so
I would forget. Wondering if mine has a separate shut off now, will have to take a look
next time I'm out there. If not, seems like a good idea to have one.

IT is now the golden throne paying that much for one.

I just checked - I don't have a shut-off valve, either...why isn't one factory installed??? Is there a reason?
Would it be difficult to install one? Curious dufuses want to know.

Yup kinda hard to install. Have to jury rig the plumbing which just gives it more places to leak. Guess I'll forgo one. After removing the old toilet could see where its been leaking a little for some time. Lesson learned? Feel behind your toilet on the floor once in a while. If the fitting hadn't given way the next thing would have been the floor rotting away. The new toilet, by the way, is higher than the old one. Guess I'll need a stool so I don't fall off but that's a whole new story.

I understand how you feel....Had the same problem...My toilet replacement cost over $400 as it had to 'fit' the old toilet's floor pattern. New toilet doesn't use the separate sprayer that I had on the old one....plus it's a little larger (in a small area that is not good) and it sits higher....come on people, I'm only 5'1-1/2...higher means I may need to get a stool to just use it ....all in all, not happy with the cost or the toilet.... Just wanted to let you know you're not alone...............Oh yeah....for all that $$$...I don't have a shut off valve either & the separate sprayer (not useable) just sits against the wall...............

Oh rats Karen, that's a bummer, though so good you have a trust worthy repair guy near by! It's been one of those week-ends for me too, but will post that on a different thread.

OK, latest update. I mentioned the toilet was higher than the old one. Well, right after Chris left I tried to sit on it. I had to jump up to sit down and then my feet were dangling about three inches in the air. Not good!!. Was afraid if I tried to use a little stool I would trip over it in the middle of the night so I went back to Gibsons and got a "low profile" toilet which was about $100 cheaper. I'm sitting here waiting for Chris to return and exchange them. If I don't use the first one I can return it. Now my toilet sits up on a "riser" that was CARPETED. Now who the he?? carpets around a toilet. Well since Chris had the toilet out I asked him to remove the carpet. Now we're having to build up around where the new toilet will sit because the flange that connects to the sewer pipe was PUT ON TOP OF THE CARPET. What next??? So exchanging a toilet with two bolts holding it down has become an all day thing. Why or why is nothing in my life ever simple?

Diana, I really feel for you. It looks like your van was just barely on the tow truck. Keep us posted as to why you have no power. If it ain't one thing, its another.

I had a post and tried to send, but yours stopped me. Changed my mind about sending it, after this latest update. Wow, Karen, mine sets on a platform too, if I ever have that problem, hopefully I will remember to measure new one before installing.

Hope you get it all in and right before too much more problem.

When my toilet leaked, I got lucky - rv guy came out, took out the toilet, replaced the seal under it - put toilet back. Told me if I hadn't caught that right away, would have been the whole toilet. So I do watch the area behind (which is carpeted and can get wet without being noticeable).

That said, sux that you had to replace the toilet - TWICE - and hope you have it all working now.

I am sorry to her this. That was an expensive toilet.

It's a good thing you were there or it really could have been a mess. Maybe you could put floor tiles where the carpet was.

I can tell you from experience that if you have an older toilet that it's just as cheap to change the whole toilet as have an RV place order parts and fix it. Mine started leaking on a trip last year and I spent 6 hours at a Camping World waiting for them to get around to me. I had picked out the tallest one and the old one already had a 2" riser but it's about the height of a handicapped one. Which is good for old knees.
