Here's the story. It was one of my stops on Nevada's loneliest road last summer. Shame.

We have pictures of that tree too from our trip across highway 50 - what is the matter with people today? Cannot even imagine why someone would do something like that.

..

I'd bet big bucks it was stupid (and bored) kids...

Many years ago, we lived along a slow-moving river and there were maybe 20 geese that stayed around even during the winter (cuz everyone fed them). One winter morning, we got up and they had all been shot to death with pellet guns. Kids. Police never caught 'em. I'm not a big kid-fan.

I never heard of this Shoe Tree, but I googled it. It was pretty cool. Grrrrrrrr...

What a shame, must have been someone, who is so unhappy, they want to take others pleasure away too.

My Nephew, bought a 10 acre property in Tn. and on his property we found a pair of shoes, boots or some foot wear attached to each tree.
The previous owner may have seen one of those 'shoe trees' and had his friends dispose of their footwear on his property ;)
Hey, after reading this article and finding there is more then one tree, it sounded like a good answer to his shoe trees.
He thought it was neat too, so left them all :D

I doubt we'll ever know whats in minds that will do such as this. I just hope I never meet one !! :(

CArol :)

Hate that people do such things. I'd like to think it's kids, but too often, it's adults. No matter the age, I hate to wish bad on anyone - but anyone who hurts animals, kids, other people, or do acts like this - I hope I NEVER meet.

What a shame! I'm glad I did Hwy 50 a few years ago and got my picture of the tree.

On Hwy 49 south of me, there is a fence where someone has put boots on all the fence posts. It's interesting to see.

That's too bad :( I think it was a fun thing for people to do and it did no harm to the tree but gave people good memories, having been there and could say they left their shoes there.
Some people are just clueless and need to get a life! It's a shame...

we have to wonder about some people .........today heard of an indecent in Milwaukee where a huge group of kids went running through a mall into a store and pretty much demolished it why??/ they were bored and wanted something to do...
People don't seem to respect what are other peoples things ...makes you wonder how it can be retaught....just makes one sick
haven't been on that road yet and now won't get to see the shoe tree :x

For what it is worth, I think there may be more than shoe tree out there in the nation. I found it interesting reading the comments following the news posting. Many individuals remarking that hanging shoes is trees is Vandalism of its own making ( rather than public Art) :? Does make you think.....
