Can I spew here?

Postby flick4411 » Thu Dec 09, 2010 7:26 pm

I sure hope so, cuz I'm gonna spew. I teach new employees about being a government employee and about working in the Department of Defense. Because we have no official classrooms in our offices, so I have to drive 25 miles one way to north Richmond where we lease classrooms from the University of Phoenix. Since March I have basically done this by myself. Classes used to be three weeks; we've reduced it to two weeks. Employees come in from all over the country; many have significant time in civilian careers. they've come to the Government for security after losing jobs, having their own companies go under, or just because they want that security. I have recently gotten a second instructor on board. She sat through a full two weeks and was supposed to "absorb" the class content somewhat. I'm not sure what she did absorb... Then for the two weeks between classes, she was supposed to work on the website to learn how to navigate through the various sites we use to teach. Guess she didn't do that either. This past Tuesday was supposed to be her first day of teaching alone; I'm in the building, but I'm trying to stay out of HER classroom because I know i have a tendancy to "help"!! She deserves to teach without me interrupting. Yesterday, she came to me saying she was having a meltdown because she couldn't fina any number of websites and didn't know what to do. I offered to help and did so. Then at the end of the day, she said she felt bad about the meltdown and had given herself a headache. I wished her a nice evening and said I hoped the headache went away. This morning at 0630 as I'm checking my work email, I get one from her saying she's sick and won't be in. That means I have to teach her class now. Ok, I get it, we can't help getting sick. Turns out, she has strep--for the second time in three weeks--and won't be in tomorrow either. I had a number of things I was supposed to get accomplished during this "downtime" while she was going to teach. However, that's falling apart quickly. And now you ask why am I spewing? No, it's not because she's sick, and it's not even because I have had to teach for two days. No, I'm spewing because I am running a fever and have a sore throat and swollen tonsils! CRAP! Now I'm going to get sick; and I'm supposed to pick up Foo Foo on Saturday. I don't get sick but once every couple of years, and when I do, it's not pretty. DOUBLE CRAP. I do have some antibiotics in the house; I'm going to start taking them now. Please, please, all you ladies, would you send up a prayer that I don't get really sick... (and yes, I still have tonsils..so maybe this will stay in my tonsils and not get into any other systems; that is what tonsils are for, right?) Please pray, light a candle, or do a anti-sick dance... And thank you all!!! I feel better... hope I haven't brought you all down!

Oh, Li - you're not going to get sick! Not NOW, for pete's sake...
But I'll take bets that you're gonna lose your new "teacher".

You're right...double crap! I know it's to late now, but there's a lot of the nasty's going around, get a bottle of that anti germ stuff. I know, I know, you're not supposed to use it very often 'cause it kills all of the beneficial germs too, but if you're not good at hand washing or tend to put your hands around your face it needs to be used. So sorry Li, looks like she did a job on you! Sure hope you're ok to pick up FooFoo on Sat.

And you do know that if you don't use a complete prescription of an antibiotic the little germys learn to tolerate and ignore the meds??? In fact I've heard but don't know for a fact, that they get addicted to the meds and show up in your body more often so they can get their fix.

Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar and fat.

Sending "stay strong" vibes your way.... :) And ....... patience for the new employee. Hope she really has the talent and the interest in teaching others....enough to do her homework. I have patience for those that sincerely want to do the job and aren't just marking time....

Years ago when I was an assistant director the Superintendent hired a past friend to serve as our Director. The other assistant director and I gave her 6 months to get up to speed but when it became apparent to all of us she was "skating" and wasn't going to do anything that she didn't absolutely have to. (...her background was public school administration and she was sadly lacking in her knowledge of Special Education laws and procedures much less knowledge of the needs and service for students with severe and profound handicap...) anyway that was a long two years until she found herself another position. I remember her trying to "chum" up to me after many months on the job. She very sincerely (and clueless) said that she didn't understand why we couldn't be "friends".... I think that I calmly replied that I didn't worry about the staff liking or not liking me but I always worked hard to earn their respect...... Truthfully, I don't think she understood the difference.

Thank you Sharon! The hugs are appreciated!

Mitch, that will be the longest germinating bug in the history of history. But then again, there was that supposed curse on anyone who went into the King Tut tomb all those centuries later! I think it's just a bug that she got from her step daughters and can't seem to get rid of. I, for one, believe in the power of Penicillin. Let's hope it proves to be worth believing in!!!!!

Tina, you are so right...it's all about the respect. I think she's gonna be fine as an instructor; she just got remarried and her new hubby has two daughters. Kim already has a 9 year old son at home. On the weeks when dad has his girls, it's a competition between the real mom (who sounds like a total nut case--one of the daughters was kept home all week last week; but when the dad asked why, real mom said it was none of his damn business!!!) and the step mom. Kim's new hubby works about 60 miles from where they live, so Kim does all the kid duty when the kids are at her house. Her parents and his parents do help out a lot; but sharing germs just isn't kewl! Oh well, it is what it is. I think she was terribly embarassed about her flameout yesterday and realizes that she's got a lot of catching up to do. Hopefully, after this class is over--in the two weeks before the next class--she'll spend her time advisedly and get up to speed. Otherwise, I may have to take her out and beat her!!! (just kidding)

Thanks gals, you did make me feel better already!!!

You certainly aren't the first to "spew" here. Sorry ... what a mess. Hope you feel better soon.

I "do" Zicam and Hot & Sour Soup when I start getting that sick feeling - it usually helps. I also use my "Neti Pot" most nights - I think it helps flush out all those germs that I breath in every day.
Hope you feel better !

Sharon, I'm thinking I should take my lead from your sig and have some of the "four essential food groups." May not cure the ills, but I won't care as much!

And sorry to the "hugs" lady, I got confused over who sent hugs...and I'm not sure I know your real name either! Anyway, hugs are ALWAYS appreciated no matter who sends them. Thank you!!!!

I'am with Ava - isn't alcohol supposed to kill germs? Hope you caught it fast and get over it quick. Can't mess up the weekend.

When I did the distillery tour - I think the bourbon I sampled killed any germs in me that day.

That said - please, please - don't get sick. Not fair, not now! I'll send you some hugs and warm thoughts - eat soup - it really does do good - no matter what ails us.

Sick, or not sick, Li, you will still have to pick up FooFoo! Maybe you can settle down in there and recuperate! I hope your tonsils will trap all those nasty bugs and destroy them before they migrate to anywhere else! If you were closer, you could have some of my home-made chicken soup.

Oh, that kind of spew....not the funny kind. No, please don't. I also use Zicam at the first sign of symptoms...seems to keep things from getting bad, and helps get over it quickly. I'm sending more prayers that you are well for the Foo-Foo pick-up.
