RV Insurance Suggestions

Postby kdmac » Wed Dec 08, 2010 12:53 am

Hi All! I would like to know if anyone can suggest the least expensive RV insurance. I thought I would hear what you may have to tell me before I add the RV onto my Pemco, which I have for the truck. When I go online to check various insurance company prices they all want to create a quote for me and than means they will hit your credit check and if you get a plethora of people doing a credit check it actually lowers your credit score...rediculous situation but it is the truth. Thanks

I have Progressive...but it is on a class C and I have never had to use it. (Guess we may find out though after husband hit the over hang at a church....last time he borrowed it.....read that anyway you want...I was not thrilled....) Anyone with similar set ups. I think it may matter comparing apples to apples.

I have Progressive on Hope, was the most inexpensive for her. Thank goodness she has behaved herself for the most part and I haven't had to use it, but I know 2 people that did and they just raved about the service. Also try AARP if you're a member, I got really good rates from then on the Jeep, truck and motorcycle. They're rates for Hope were the same as Progressive so I just stayed with them. I would take a couple of hours and use the phone to get quotes. Most of the insurance companies have 800 numbers.

..

The cheapest for us was just to tack it on to our car insurance - around $80/year for our little travel trailer.

I went with Progressive, because my neighbor has it for his RV and use to sell insurance and said they were best, but do need to see if it would be discounted iwith The Hartford, where my auto/home insurance is.

Progressive for me. Had it a year and just got a letter telling me they are giving me a good customer (I read it - no claims, no tickets) discount for the next year when I renew which I had already planned to do. Won't be changing for another 12 months.

I did not go with Progressive, for many reasons - one being they were more expensive for less coverage - and, at the time I was looking, they didn't have the extras I wanted in rv insurance. I went with a company that specifically handles rv's and am VERY happy with them. They give a slight discount if you belong to any RV group - www.explorerrv.com. Tell them I sent you - they like referrals - and if you have Good Sam or another rv membership, tell them that. At least get a quote from them.

I had Progressive for the first year and dropped them after they raised the rates, just because. I'm now with GEICO and get a nice discount for insuring multiple things. They will also cover me when I take the camper off the truck when in a campground. Most will not. At least the agent at GEICO knew what a truck camper was. :o  Linda

We use Foremost through our Farmers Insurance agent. We pay about $700 every six months and they have been wonderful to deal with and you know us, we have had two fires, one blown engine and that's enough for 3 years!!!

We have both our Class A 40' alfa and our Class C insured with Progressive. One reason is they cover us for collision while in Mexico - we still have to get Mexican insurance for liability. Have had not problems with them. And just a small window chip claim which they paid right away.

My car, house, renter's insurance is all with USAA. But when I called them for the RV, they sent me to Progressive. Was a reasonable amount; but still it's twice as much as the RAV4. (well, DUH, you're saying...dunno what I was expecting, but I was on the floor after I heard the initial quote! After putting it into perspective, the insurance is a good cost for the RV). Unless you are really worried about a point or two, that's all a credit check should cost your credit number. Honestly, it's silly, but unless you've got a huge load of revolving credit, it really won't mean much for a point or two. Mine just dropped 5 points with the RV loan of $65K so that wasn't too bad. I don't like it; I have GREAT credit, but the system isn't wired for us; it's wired for the darned banks, eh? Good luck with the search. I'll be interested to follow the thread and see if Progressive is as good as I thought

I have progressive for my car but could not attach the fifthwheel insurance to
that policy because it was not the towing vehicle, so I had to go with Foremost.
Besides the fact that I told them I'd be living in it full time Progressive said no,
but Foremost covers it like a mobile home. Costs me $42 a month. I've never
had to make a claim so can't vouch for anything in that dept.
