Skype - just sharing..

Postby AlmostThere » Mon Nov 08, 2010 9:39 pm

I have Skype on my new laptop but hadn't tried it until today. My SIL got a new computer for the family, too, and asked if I had it. He said that he video talks to his Mom and sisters and I should try getting mine going. So I did and as he and his mother are the only other Skype user I know, they are the only two I added to my contacts list. Just a bit ago while I was Farmvilling, my Skype breaks in and it's my SILs mother. It took me a bit to figure out how to get it so she could see me. I'm not sure what I clicked but it worked! It was great fun. She lives in Fountain Hills, AZ.

Just wanted to share how much fun it was.

That sounds very cool. But, I am just so darned ugly that once people saw my face fill their screen they would never contact me again...that would hurt my lil feelings.

My dd and gds used skype to visit with my SIL while he was overseas in Iraq. It wasn't perfect (delay), but better than nothing.

kdmac, my SIL's mother is beautiful. She is 70 and looks about 55. Her hair/makeup/dress is always to perfection. So here I sit, hair a mess, in a raggedy t-shirt and she pops up on my screen so coiffed! :( Oh, and her new compter has a 23 inch screen, so I can imagine how I looked to her!

I used to think about something like that when they say one day we will all have telephones like on the Jetson's cartoon, with cameras..you know how the phone always rings when you're in the shower.... :?

I have Mac/Apple computer so we use iChat. My almost 9 mo. old boy/girl twin grandbabies and I get to see and talk to one another a few times a week. I live almost 4 hours from them so this is a wonderful way to see them more often. It's so much fun - we talk, laugh, dance and clap our hands together. I love this technology!! Their daddy's family lives very close to them so they see them way more often than I do.

I'm reverting (or revolting - in any of it's connotations). I used to chat online using the cameras, etc - many years ago (before I went on the road - so at least 5 1/2 years now). I don't do any of it anymore. I can see how great it would be for those in the service, or with grandkids, etc. But me - like I said, I'm going backwards lol - none if it now. And my current computer has the camera and mic built in - never been used :)

And, Vickie, yep -

I can hear my mother saying "You're not going to talk on the phone looking like that"  If we had those phones when I was little, my mother would make us dress up as if company were coming. Lenora, my mother was like your SIL's mother, not a hair out of place. Boy did I get the wrong gene. Linda

I enjoy skyping when I can find someone on at the same time as me. As Liz said there is a delay but it beats nothing.

Well, I admit, I used to do this when I got paid those really big $$$$'s (yeah right!!), but it is a cheap way to make a phone call when you don't have access to anything other than wi-fi. Like right now I have access to wi-fi, but no cell phone, but I could use a land line. So this would be a good way to contact a fellow skyper...cheap! and you guys know that you can always tape paper over the camera eyeball  When I think of delay, I think of talking third party twice on ham radio to the South Pole. That was time delay. :P . I am looking forward to seeing and talking in to my wrist watch. it tells me the day of the wk, month and day and the time (somewhere) and beeps on the hour...so, I'd like to talk to it and see who I am talking to!

I use Skype and love it. Just so you know you can answer the call and talk without the video. There are two choices when answering the call - with or without video. I did not know that till I answered the call one morning still in my nighy and my girlfriend called me on Skype from Russia (they are on a mission there). She told me about the two ways to answer the call after I laughed that I was in my nighty. Thank goodness it was a nice fairly new nighty

I do wonder if you can make conference calls on Skype - that would be cool to be on my computer and both my boys were on theirs with their families. I so like being able to see my grands. would love to see them in person but that is not always possible.
