#!$&%@)*^#%!!!!!

Moved this from Morning Coffee so that I may properly VENT!!! :evil:

A friend's BF came over yesterday to show me how to winterize my rig. The inevitable happened, he started WORKING on it (to put in a bypass to allow me to winterize it more easily). He said it would take 15 minutes ... but OF COURSE he didn't have everything he needed, so -- two hours later -- he says he's going to come back today and finish up.

I don't know why guys do this. Makes me crazy (I've had some bad experiences with this). I'll be happy to have that bypass in, but I've survived quite nicely without it. I know I'm being whiny about someone else's generosity ... but honestly, I'm counting on this guy to KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING. Hope he does.

UPDATE:

AAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!

He cut piping and hooked the bypass onto the output ... not the intake ... the net effect is that the %&#@!$ thing was blowing bubbles into the pink stuff bottle rather than drawing the antifreeze into the water system. Now it's all jerry-rigged with lines going here and there ... crap blowing out of the water heater ... and I'm going to have to take it to the shop and get it fixed right. I just paid my property taxes and don't have $ for this.

#!$#*&*%%#@$#%&^)#@!$*(&#$!!!!!!

SO upset. Then he wanted to come back and "fix" the bypass valve. No way in hell I was letting him close to that.

I am SO sick and tired of men who tell me they know how to fix something and it all gets SCREWED UP!!! After wasting hours and hours of my time and theirs. Sorry. But that's how I feel. DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN.

DAMN!

Janice, I thought you were going to workkamp doing some boat stuff down in South Texas. Did that change? Did I misremember the person?

And yes, it is a bummer. I don't normally let just anyone touch (read that work) on my rig. Learned the hard way about someone fixing things for you. I now say, "No it's okay I'll take it to the boyz and let them do it".

However, it should be a fairly easy fix, but you will need to sanitize your hot water heater (rinse, clean, the tank and double check the anode rod) before you use it. Hope the repair shop doesn't get to you, too. Will you be taking it to your 'regular shop'?

Best of luck.

Generally speaking, men are totally unable to say" I don't know how to do that". I've also learned that lesson the hard way. Hang in there. At this point, I'd rather put something on a credit card and take a few months to pay for it than to let someone "fix" anything on my rig.

Oh, Laura, thank you, thank you, thank you! I needed that more than you could know.

Well, I had just about calmed down ... and then I took my MH to the shop.

$414.

Of that, $120 (plus tax) is to undo the 'favor' done unto me. $98 to replace the hot water heater bypass valve (which I wouldn't let HIM touch), and I decided to go ahead and have Clay winterize it.

Mitch, I can't even begin to form kind words right now for my GF. I'm glad she didn't call today. And Birdie, I canceled the fall trip after I bought the condo. Too many expenses involved with getting everything done there that needed to be done.

I have scheduled a trip back to the island this spring ... and I'm looking for a summer gig in Oregon. So it's all good.

I have to say that Laura took all the angst out of this post.

Janice, I've been very lucky with people doing things for me. The biggest mistakes were shops that did things wrong - so everyone, don't always feel that because it's an rv repair service, they know what they're doing! And they might know SOME things well, but won't tell you they don't know what you need. Like the rv repair service that cost me over $500 MORE in generator repairs (after paying them about $150. If I'd gone to the 2nd place first, the total would have been less than $100. Course, I wasn't even in that state at the time.

But it's harder when it's a friend, of bf of a friend, etc. If I ruined something, I'd have felt responsible for it and would have offered to pay at least part of your repair bill. Guess he didn't do that either? GF needs to dump her BF (who is Laura's ex :) )

that is way too bad...don't we just love favors??? my dd's friend decided to do them a special favor and redo their bathroom a gift right muchly appreciated but at the same time it was not a good time to do it and as all good deeds go ended up cost dd money that she didn't have for things that were unexpected...but the bathroom that isn't finished yet sure looks nice...

I don't know if I told you gals that I have a fellow RV'er (a fellow) that I swap emails with each day.

Well, while all this was going on, HE was sending me emails brimming with advice, telling me the other guy was doing it wrong -- I had TWO men telling me I was doing it wrong while I was following instructions written by yet another. It was like being trapped in an RV.net thread. :shock:

When my GF and I were sitting there watching her BF (this was the SECOND DAY of a 15-minute job, remember) work on the plumbing, I told BF I was going to start calling him "Gilligan." Because I felt like we had left on a three-hour tour. And I said if he didn't get it right I was going to vote him off the island.

So maybe -- just maybe -- I'm a little passive-aggressive. Oh, and I did mention duct tape as well. Okay, I'm a lot passive-aggressive. But to his credit, he WAS trying to be kind and helpful.

Dolt.

But I'm entitled to a bit of snark. The utility bay ended up looking like one of those beer hats with drinking tubes. Hilarious.

As it turns out, I decided my friendship is worth $120 to me. BUT -- and get this -- she called me today and said BF was up all night thinking about how he could have done it differently. Wanna know what he came up with? That I should have drained the water heater LAST!! OMG ... it was all I could do not to laugh. I will tell her sometime in the future ... but not now. What a bozo.

I'm calmer today. I realize I was pitching a fit because someone did $120 in damage to a $50,000 motor home. Boo-hoo. Luxury problems.

But you couldn't have said that to me yesterday.
