Little Job, yeah right!

My daughter, her boyfriend and I went to my little rental house today for a simple, little job of changing the doorknobs on the front and back door to the utility room. Ended up spending the entire day. The back door is old and too thin to put a newer knob on sooooo to Home Depot to buy a new door. Well the new doors are too tall and if we cut to fit there won't be enough wood left on the door cause my doors are short. Grrrrrr. Off to a different store to buy a "solid" core door. Bought one and had it cut BUT the inside wasn't wood. Finally got a smaller door that we can adapt. Back to the house to just put new knob on front which is thicker BUT after removing the old lock it left a BIG damn hole in the door edge where we couldn't put a new lock. Had old door in garage and the kids took both doors home to try and cut them to size. Wasted entire day and spent about $150 on knobs, door etc. We also need to replace the back door where it looks like someone kicked the door in at some time. Grrrrr! Definitely have decided to sell and get this elephant off my back. As soon as the rentors give notice it goes up for sale. Wish I didn't have to move back in to clean and fix it up but I do. Am sick of dealing with rentors who don't take care of it.

Sorry for your home woes. I agree that most renters don't care for a home the same as an owner. One reason I won't ever be a landlord. Hope the doors retro fit ok this time.

Ouch! Don't blame you for wanting to sell. I would too.

Yep, that's why I don't try to rent out my house. That and the liability because of the pool. Sorry about the unwanted/unexpected expense.

Yeah, that's always been my feeling too. Although I know people who have rented out their homes and have had very nice renters.

But sorry to hear about your door fix it problems. Maybe you shoul try steel doors. Hopefully they will get them fixed for you.

Aw, Karen, sorry to hear that. But yep, my experience, too. I rented to a friend. And when he moved out - still had work I had to do before I could sell. One cabinet door broken, inside of another broken, walls dirty, etc etc. I was lucky that a friend did most of it (I was 3 hours away) and I only had to pay for parts, etc. But even then it cost me. I was so happy to sell it and not have that worry.

Good luck! Hope everything works out and doesn't cause you more headaches.

Karen

So sorry to hear about the work you need to do on your house. I hope the doors get fixed quickly and without more work on your part. Once you put it up for sale I hope it sells quickly.
