Hard water ... UPDATE

Postby Getupngo » Thu Oct 21, 2010 11:25 pm

Picked up my RV from my son's house, and it had been sprayed for months by his lawn sprinklers. He must have the hardest water in creation, because I could barely see the side mirror out the driver's side window. The crud almost turned the window into a mirror.

Spent an hour and a half tonight cleaning the windows with a special glass-cleaning product.

The bad news is that there is the same mineral scaling on the paint. I bought some Maguire's polishing compound ... so tomorrow I'm going to try to get the whole driver's side done. It's going to rain this weekend and SNOW on Monday. So time is limited.

Ain't it great to own an RV!

(sorry guys, didn't think to take pictures before I started cleaning).

You might try vinegar. It cuts hard water scum or whatever ya call it. I would say lime away,, but would be afraid that might damage the paint. now it might work ok on the chrome and mirrors.

Sorry that happened but I know about hard water! We have it too. Sure is hard on the faucets!

Let us know how you come out!

and did you see the pics I posted? I posted one of Roy and added my dog to my signature.... ;))

hope you're doing well, and thanks for the kind words, gf!

love ya!

Hope this helps. I'd think the son's extra set of hands helping you out would make it go a lot faster! :)

Vinegar did the trick. It just melts the crud away ... and the paint shines. I got half the rig done already. I'm relaxing after taking a dose of "Vitamin I" (ibuprophen) ... letting it go to work. I have a few more nice days ahead to finish.

Speaking of finish ... the bad news is I have to re-polish it. Guess that's the price of admission.

I'd looked at that - went back and found the page for the paint and glass - and it's just what she's doing - vinegar. http://www.ehow.com/how_6365842_remove- ... glass.html

Which is what we used to clean showers in motels with hard water - vinegar and water in a spray bottle. So glad it's working, Janice!
