Where's Liz? Blue Ridge Blueberries and Butterflies

Postby Liz » Thu Aug 26, 2010 7:39 am

There will be another post about yesterday's adventures, but the butterflies were so plentiful, I decided to give them their own post.

Beautiful, Liz!

Your third picture is Touch-me-Nots, or Jewelweed-----the remedy for itchies of all kinds, from poison ivy to mosquito bites. Pete made a crushed recipe of this last year and then froze it into ice cubes for first aid on the road!

The swallowtail butterflies on the thistles and other flowers are beautiful....they must be migrating your way now. And I see some Mountain Ash orange berries there, too. Birds seem to love these, and I used to love it when my now-dying tree made so many berries each late summer to match the trim on my house. I still have another tree very laden with the berries, however, this year.

Thanks for the great pics!

Happy travels!

Loved the butterflies and flowering plants. It's hard to pick a favorite.

Beautiful pictures. Tell the butterflies to wait for me. One of these years I hope we are going in the same direction and I can follow you for a ways.

I have been wanting to get one of the senior passes to the National Parks. Don't remember what they are calling them now. Maybe I will find an office where I can buy one on this trip.

Martha you can find locations on where to get the America The Beautiful Senior Pass here: http://store.usgs.gov/pass/senior.html

We went to the office/visitor's center in Bell City yesterday and got the disabled pass for Ronnie. He had one years ago that we got on one of our westward trips, but lost it in the flood, now he has a new one.
