Magnetic paint

One of my medium frustrations in the MH is that there is no place to put magnets. I like refrigerator magnets and would like to collect them from places I visit, especiallyy National parks. I was at Lowe's this weekend for some paint and noticed a display for chalkboard paint. I asked the employee if there is such a thing as magnetic paint and she showed it to me. Has anyone ever tried this on their RV fridge door? Did it work? It was actually a primer and then you could put a color over it - thought I would probably do black. Thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea to me, but I have no experience with it.

I saw it on a home improvement show and it's something I'd like also. I collect magnets, too - and have limited magnetc space. Haven't tried it yet - so if you do first, please report!

My niece used it in her home and loved it. She put it on a section of the wall of her daughter's room for her to use and also a section on the kitchen wall to put notes & magnets on. I don't see why it wouldn't work on the fridge door.. you may need to ask if there's some type of prep work to get it to adhere to the fridge door properly.

Sounds like a great idea to me, if it's clear and will allow the wood paneling to show through-----if it's avacado green or pee yellow, however, I may have a problem painting that on! Who will be the guinea pig and give it a try??

I've never used the paint. I had some metal tiles I ordered from Harriett Carter and put those beside my stove and then on my freezer front, works great and is decorative too. I posted pix of those tiles in a post on one of the other threads if you want to check it out.

Actually I put it on my blog and here is the post if you want to see the tiles. They are lightweight and come in a variety of colors. http://sunshinecruisertn.blogspot.com/2 ... en-ky.html

Yep, used the paint on my frig door. Put 3 coats and then the color over top. Did work, somewhat. Would only hold really lightweight magnets like those plastic numbers and letters the kids use. I would get a small piece of metal, paint it and attach it to the frig with double sided tape or earthquake putty or if you want it permanent use construction adhesive.

Actually my new frig has glass-like front and I put magnets up with that blue earthquake putty. Works fine unless it gets real hot inside and the magnets sort of slide down and I just push them back up.

I like the idea, but would make it something temporary in case you want to trade in or sell your RV someday...unless it's not worth much, like mine, and living in it, like me ;) The panels from your fridge might be removable. If so, maybe you could make an insert for it with a thin metal. Make sure the metal isn't aluminum and attracts magnets. Just an idea. I like your panels, Sunshine, but I think they're too pretty to cover up! The hood over my stove is metal, so I do have my letter opener, bottle opener, and magnetic note pads on it. Did the magnet collection for a long time when I had a house. I prefer less clutter now, but I still enjoy looking at others' collections :D

The magnetic paint does sound like a good idea. Maybe try it first without painting over it to see how well it holds the magnets while driving down the road. If it is a primer, possibly it is not clear, but a gray color? Maybe there is another product that will work. We will have to get Mitch on this right away (we all know how she likes these challenges :D ;) ) Linda

The magnetic paint itself is an ugly dark grey/black and it won't hold anything heavier than those little plastic letters kids use. You could put a metal panel in your frig like someone suggested. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 2 and it was expensive; around $25 for a pint.

I think I'd opt for those tiles - look great!

As to not personalizing our rigs - I say if someone doesn't like what I do - don't buy - if and when I get ready to sell. This is my home, and while I supposed some things need to be considered for resale value - no matter what we do - some will love, others will hate - including leaving things as is :)

How do the tiles stick on? do they have some with a smoother surface? The decorative ones on your blog don't seem they would look good with souvenir magnets all over them.

The come with little squares of 2-sided tape but it doesn't do well so out came the old silicone. I dabbed a little on the corners and put painters tape to hold in place until they dried. Mine are covered with magnets, acrylic picture frames w/magnets on the back, my ICE info and anything else I wanna put up there. The decorative part doesn't prevent the magnets from sticking. I also used six of those tiles on my freezer door for more magnet space. My range hood is my microwave and it's plastic so doesn't hold anything.

Kellie - the price is high - but look at this neat backsplash (the first one) http://iscsupply.com/id295.html I'd like it for my fridge door - and would look better than what's on it!

Actually, for just tiles, the price isn't as bad - I was looking at the sheet price.

And here's some plain ones (available in different colors) from Carol Wright: http://www.carolwrightgifts.com/Home-Fu ... ll%20tiles
