Cupboard/Spice Rack project

Postby Colliemom » Sun Aug 08, 2010 7:39 pm

Benn doing a little personalization to my trailer. I have a cupboard over the stove that doesn't have a shelf in it. Think it was probably designed for cereal boxes and tall stuff. So I made a shelf out of 1/4 inch poplar boards and 1x2's. Once they were cut to size, I painted them with some craft paint I had here and then put a coat of poly over it. Attached the 1x2 on the one side with strips of Velcro and a couple of screws to hold it in place. Didn't use too long of screws, just enough to go through the 1x2 and into the cupboard wall to hold it. One never knows just how thick those cupboard sides are or what's behind them. On the other side I was able to screw directly into the wood frame of the cupboard itself. Then I just glued the shelf down on top and presto, one glass/cup etc. shelf. All lightweight stuff, so no problem. Everything stayed in place perfectly on the road.

Also wanated some type of spice rack thing to keep my Pam, Salt/Pepper etc. in so it would be easier to get at. So I made this little spice rack out of poplar too.

My cupboard over the sink is like that and I thought of doing something like that, too. Then I bought a coffee maker and it now rides up there when in transit. ;) I'm thinking I need a removable shelf...hmmm. Now you got me going!
Great job!!

Nice job....my way of building a shelf is to go to Walmart and buy one!!

Nice job. Very handy. I have a wine rack and I use three of my wine bottle slots for my spray oil, don't worry, that leaves six more spaces for wine bottles. LOL
