MY FRIDAY AFTERNOON

The sleeping area of my new truck camper-top/tent combo. The tailgate is down, the top cover is part-way up, and the sleeve from the tent is around it all. This makes a nice, secure sleeping area, off the ground.

The potty section of the tent! That's a Thetford Campa-pottie which I've had for a number of years, but have never used. I usually just use a luggable loo----a bucket with a snap-on toilet seat which I can empty every morning in the campground bathrooms, or the music festival porta-potties.

My view from my practice set-up site!

And now I must head off to the chatroom.....this is just one of the things I did today in the sunshine!

Soos, What a cool setup!! I love it. You're really creative. When you come to the AR GTG, you're bringing Molly, right? (is Abby going to have to compete with BOTH Maggie AND Molly for Herschel's affections? Poor Abby - she's gonna lose cuz she's such a pita. But her Momma loves her).

Soos, when I thought about your setup and the possibility (finger's crossed for probability) of you going to the AR GTG, I was concerned that your tent/truck camper would be a problem with the tent square not being connected to the place you park your truck on the site. Thanks to Mitch calling the park and explaining your setup and asking and they said it would be fine for your tent to be attached to your truck and not in the tent square. So there! It'll work for ya! Now, make your reservation!

Omigawd----I thought I had posted on here that I cannot come to that GTG. It is more miles to go there and back to here than it is to go to Orlando and back from here. I would have to go there, turn around and head back here, then wait until I earn some subbing money before heading out to FL in October. For some reason, I thought AR was just a bit beyond PA! This won't work for me this year, unfortunately. I still have no idea how much money I will be making, and won't know for several months, so cannot afford to travel all those miles. I will know much more when I get to FL and have been there for a couple of months just what I can afford and what I can't afford. I would be putting in over 6,000 miles in just a couple of months if I went to the AR GTG.

Also, after spending a good part of the afternoon setting up that tent/truck deal, it's not worth the effort for me to set up the tent. I need to find a way for me to just stay right in the truck without the tent. Two people could throw that outfit up in about 5 minutes, but not me alone. It will work fine in the truck for overnighters, but not sure about what I would do for a longer period of time. Eventually, I hope I will feel confident to haul my trailer where I want to go, but right now, I am not confident at all. I still can't back up, and don't know how to watch for low hanging bridges on the back roads. Many things I can't do alone, just from fear of being stranded someplace.

I will meet you all some day in the not-too-distant future. I need to get my life together first. This retirement has not been comfy for me at all----so far I am not liking that I will not be getting any more bi-weekly checks. As it is now, I stay right here all the time, not even going shopping but once about every two to three weeks. I am terrified to spend gas money for fear I will go broke! I don't even like grocery shopping.

Sorry about that-----I would so love to meet you all.

Soos, I'm sad that you won't be there, but I understand completely! We'll meet up with ya one of these days, maybe in FL. :D

Love the tent set-up for your truck, Soos. And it looks like just the truck by itself would work great too.

Soos - Take a deep breath! You are still new to the retirement life and worrying about going broke. That is the number 1 fear for all of us when we first quit working. People told me you have more money than you think and I didn't believe them. It's true. Once you settle into your financial routine, write everything down, get your ducks in order (well, at least your income and outgo) you will discover it isn't as bad as you think.

BREATH!

Remember the advice we've received on this forum: We have to pull up our big girl panties and get on with it!

And that tent attachment is darling. I saw something similar in a park awhile back. Sorry it takes so long to assemble, tho.

Take care

Soos, that porta pottie is exactly like the one we lugged all over Alaska on our treks! It's a good little pottie. :)
Yep, what everyone else says. Take a deep breath and one day at at time. Allow the dust to settle for a bit and you'll
see how it goes. Worrying will get you nothing but a ulcer. ;)

Soos, love the set up. Too bad the tent is a lot to set up be yourself. Without the tent you should be plenty comfortable camping for a few days. You will be just fine in retirement. You have a lot of knowledge and talents that you would be able to supplement your income when in FL or anywhere else for that matter. Good advise, take deep breaths and don't worry so much. It will work out for you. Linda
