Outside thermometer

I like to know what the temperature is outside the rv and was wondering if any of you have any recommendations for an outside thermometer? I've seen different ones that attach to your window and wondered if they worked, also.

I had one when I was in TX on the outside of my kitchen window. It was sometimes accurate, but when the sun was directly on it, omg, it was way high LOL

That said, one day it fell off - and I didn't bother replacing it. Better are the ones with indoor/outdoor, if you can find a place to put the outside sensor that will give you a good reading.

Ever consider wireless? You could set the remote sensor out of the sun and away from the metal of the trailer...
Just don't forget it when you pull out!

I had one of those atomic clocks both in the house and in the RV. I love them! I have it mounted on the wall over my door. However, my RV's clock refuses to pick up the outside temp. now. I just set the sensor outside my door on a little patio table behind my solar frog so it was always in the shade.

Rather than spend the $30 or so for another clock (since the rest of the clock still works) I bought a small led indoor/outdoor one with a small sensor which I mounted on my door's hinge. It works fine, but it's way too small for me to see without standing right in front of it and squinting. Should have just bought another whole large unit.

I actually was looking for those round, see-through plastic ones that I've seen on kitchen windows of RVs. Is that what you had, Beth? I wondered how they stayed on while bouncing down the road, but the guy camped next to me last month said he's had his up for years. I just hadn't seen them in the stores!

That's what I had, Evie - and I wouldn't drive with it on there. But the TX heat melted some of the rubber on it to the window and it fell off :) Plus there wasn't a way to keep it from not being in the sun part of the day - at least not where I could see it and not in treeless TX. I'd like one like Mitch said or you had before - someday. But sometimes I don't think I want to know the temp outside. Find out fast enough when I open the door :)

Here's what I use, as of yesterday----cost about $10.00.

Image
This is the sensor, which I have velcroed to the outside of the trailer. It sits in a little clip, and it's the clip that's velcroed, so I can snap out the sensor for travel.

This receiver can either sit on its litle stand on a table, as mine is, or it comes with screws and other fasteners to attach it to a wall. So far, I am very pleased with how it is working. The sensor takes two AAA batteries, and the receiver takes 3 AAs----all are supposed to last for about 24 months! There is also a built-in warning that will pop up when batteries are getting low.

So there is an option for you that requires no drilling, unless you wish to drill and screw, and it's a cinch to set up!

Soos, I've always been concerned about attaching the sensor to the metal trailer.
You have no concerns there, either in the heat or cold?

If it gets either too hot or too cold, I can always snap the sensor out of its little clip and lay it on my table----either under the awning, or somewhere else. Time will tell! Just got this yesterday!
