Hello Ladies,

What are your opinions about membership campgrounds (ie Coast to Coast, etc)?

These kind of campgrounds are okay if you are traveling to the areas they are in. I guess each company has their own costs and restrictions. I think with the other clubs out there and discounts it would be less restrictive. JMO Linda

I've also heard that it's cheaper to buy your membership from others that want to sell theirs instead of buying direct from the membership company. We don't belong to any, maybe we should form a Du(oo,ew)fus membership club.

That will certainly be a restricted club with only 3 members.

There are people who swear by them. I looked long and hard myself, but couldn't see that I'd get value. Be very careful about when they tell you you'll have so many "free" nights. You pay for the membership and the annual dues, and fees here and there - so no, they aren't "free". And when I looked at locations, they weren't where I'd use them. I'd have to stay an hour or more away from where I wanted to be often. Not gonna do that.

Again, if you KNOW you'll be using them enough, they can be worth it. For example, Seeyagal and her hubby get plenty of value from theirs. But one reason they can sell so many, is that many, many people don't get usage of them.

We belong to Escapees - have gotten our monies worth out of it on our current trip out West. I also like their magazine. Don't know how much we will use it on our next eastern trip.

Passport America is a definite plus for us. We will definitely renew that membership. We've probably used Good Sam the most - it only saves 10%, but even that amount helps.

Be sure to consider Fairgrounds and City Parks when traveling - very inexpensive.

We have friends who swear by Coast-to-Coast, but I've checked their locations (and RPI) as we have traveled and I have yet to find a location where we are traveling. We did see one of their parks on our trip, but it is not a park where I would want to stay. We stayed in one of their parks in 2009 and were very unhappy with it.

I don't know anything about Thousand Trails, but I've heard they have a totally revamped program going on right now.

We've got Thousand Trails, and Passport America. Currently dropping coast 2 coast( they overlap with what we already can go to). Because we spend alot of time on the West coast we use it alot in the Summer when we visit family and friends.We have gotten our moneys worth out of our used Alliance membership. We paid $2,400 for it and dues each year are about $600.00...they will be freeze when I get to a certain age (62?). Our sales gal did not pressure us but be aware there are those out there that do. I remember trying to get the ROD membership and had to go through 5 people to get the right answer and price.
