My Sister

I just got an email from my sister that she spent several hours in the ER yesterday.

She's always had bad allergies and this year has been worse than most. Her doctor gave her a new allergy med and she took it for the first time yesterday morning. A short time later she got dizzy and had to sit. Then lay down. They she got nauseaus and broke into a sweat and within seconds passed out. Luckily my bil was home and called 911 and they got her to the hospital. They believe she had an allergic reaction, plus she was slightly dehydrated because her throat was so sore from her allergies that she wasn't eating/drinking enough. She only has vague memories of the first part of the time in the ER - but she was able to go back home and is on the mend. Just a scary time and no, she won't take that allergy medication again.

How scary, we can think we have no allergies to medication - then boom - you do. Hopefully they are right and that was the trigger and it was a one-time only situation. She emailed me that she can't get sick now - cuz she knows I'd want to come - and she knows I'm busy elsewhere.

How scary! Glad it wasn't worse and she had immediate help. Wonder what med it was?
Thanks for sharing.

Bethers - So glad your sister is back to normal. It's so scary when someone close has allergic reactions to meds or other things. My daughter has had anaphalactic reactions. YIKES! You know for sure that your sister will never take that med again.

Wow! Just what you need right now, another scare. Glad she's ok. It has been a bad year for allergies for some reason, maybe all of the rain this year. BF is suffering terribly. Doesn't help when he comes over here and Sam the cat just loves him to pieces.

Wow, Beth---what a scary thing. Having her husband home probably saved her life. And that makes me so very aware that if it had happened to me here, I wouldn't have made it. Nobody would have missed me until I didn't show up at school. I, too, would like to know what type of prescription medication it was that she took.

Hang in there, and know that I am thinking of you every day. I so wish I had already retired and could come out there to lend a hand.

Hugs from me and Molly

I didn't ask her what med it was, but will. Thing is, she's never been allergic to any meds - it's something that could happen to any of us - and that's the scariest part for those of us alone. She was very lucky. And I posted about it cuz it's something we all need to think about for ourselves - much as we might not want to!

Sarah, she lives in Wisconsin. She was a city girl. I never thought she'd make it in the country. She and I laugh about it because she wasn't sure either. I lived in a town of under 200 when I divorced and she and my bil bought out my exes portion of the little motel he and I owned and moved up there. Well, she took to it like a bee to honey to everyone's amazement. My bil we didn't think would have any problems, and it was harder on him. They bought me out in another couple years and now they are retired. The moved about 25 miles south to a town of around 5000 and that's where they are. And they love it. I lived in that town after they bought me out - then moved slowly across the state with my job managing other motels, until I bought my rig and left the cold. I've only been back once since and would love to get back to visit again sometime soon. Maybe this fall for a short time and then back south :)
