No words necessary

Today my friend Ev and I kayaked the Silver River from the State Park landing to the headwaters of Silver Springs. As we approached the Springs (attraction famous for its glass bottom boat rides) they were playing an instrumental version of Sentimental Journey. So imagine the music as you paddle along with us by following this link to the Facebook Album. No words are necessary.

If I lived close to water that tranquil I'd invest in a kayak, too! How blessed you are!

Beautiful pics. I hope you were using the zoom on that alligator that was on the bank and not really that close. That water was so clear.

Liz - Gorgeous pix as usual!! Thanks for sharing. You sure are brave to tackle waters with alligators, etc. Looked like you really enjoyed your paddle.

Great pictures and trip!
Question - did someone pick you up at the end? If I understand this, you didn't return by kayak to where you started?

Paddled up river to the springs and drifted back down river to where we started. The current wasn't bad and we took our time exploring side inlets along the way. Kayak performed well...held her own beside the hard-sided ones. I got stopped often by people wanting to ask about the inflatable.
The photobucket link should work now (had to make it public) if anyone wants to see all the photos.

There is a band of rhesus monkeys that live along the river....descendants of those brought in when Tarzan movies were filmed here. Some escaped and multiplied. In recent years some have been removed to control numbers. There's a controversy between those that would like to remove all of them and those that would like to protect them in this habitat. The monkey study guy is on the side of protecting them.

What a lovely trip you had. The alligator would have upset me though
You keep posting all of the beautiful pictures of Fl., sure making me homesick. I keep reminding myself that this is getting into the really hot time of year, so that helps me to stay put here
I'm glad you are enjoying yourself so much and most of all sharing with all of us, Thank you,
Carol

Hi Liz,
Another wonderful ride in a Kayak.
What made you choose a kayak, instead of a canoe? I have been thinking about purchasing one of the two. I want something that is stable!

I know you have a long zoom Liz, but geez, those alligators look BIG! Thanks for the ride in your new kayak, looking forward to hearing more about it as you get to know it better.

Having used both, I feel the kayak is much more stable than a canoe. I do not do whitewater. I will use it mostly on lakes and gentle rivers, and some coastal waters. I used to have a sit-on -top hard kayak....this one is a sit in, with a spray skirt that can be rolled back if you don't want to use it. The cockpit area is large, so if I did happen to tip over (which would only happen if I did something stupid like try to stand up or lean way over), escape would be easy. I like the skirt because it keeps me and my camera dry. Also prevents sunburn on my legs. I can see where it might become hot in the summer & might choose not to use it then.

Interesting about the monkeys, I didn't realize they were a problem there. Hm, thanks, I learned something new today!
I still wanna go!

Great pics! The alligators are too close for comfort for me tho! My friend Cathy said she wants to take me to that river next time I come down, and go for a ride on the glass-bottom boat. That would be cool!
