Why I Love NPR (national public radio)

I tried to post my plug for NPR on Beth's TV thread, the universe had other ideas, just as well probably. But I did forget to mention there that without TV I began listening to the local NPR radio station.... KUT .... from the University of Texas. It is the best radio station, all kinds of different music. And, of course, all the regular news and talk from NPR. Last night was "Blue Monday" with several hours blues played by the most knowledgeable DJ. And they have a live studio where many of the bands in town for a gig go to be interviewed and play live music on the air. It's just the best. You can listen or stream online......
http://www.KUT.org . Enjoy!

I, too, love NPR especially when I'm on the road. I listen to the radio and the music on Direct TV a lot. Come to think s it, I need to go to the house and get my speakers to attach to my receiver for out here. I can play music from the receiver through my built-in radio, but I don't have outside speakers on this trailer---one of my real peeves about it. But I can aim moveable ones out of my big window, and that works.
By the way, as you all know, I had no clue what those initials meant about some morning show! But, then again, I never know initials whatsoever! I know what IRS means, but I can't translate it! One I DO know is P.S.=Post Script! And that could be it for me!

I have been an NPR junkie for years, and for a few years before DH died I had the privilege of reporting for a local all-news NPR station. There is nothing that is as much fun as layering a series of interviews and "natural" sound to take the listener there. I miss it ... but not the stress & GAWD-awful long hours.
Oh, and having to actually WORK.

NPR here in the north country of NY equals "snooze"..... voices drone on and on and it seems quite boring. But then I've not been a radio fan since I was a teenager... a LONG time ago!
Like Soos, I use my Dishnetwork for music, or my cds/dvds. sorry, NPR, no contributions from me!

Back in the late 80s, a friend of mine who has a community public radio station in Park City, Utah, told me his dream was to sign an NPR station on in Salt Lake City. As the university station aired morning and afternoon drive time NPR news ... I thought, "WHY?"
Then about four years later he signed KCPW on the air with 24-7 public radio news programming that I had never heard before -- Fresh Air, Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me, Talk of the Nation, Science Friday, and the BBC overnight. During the onset of the Iraqi war, we carried BBC coverage of the war, because it didn't have the post-911 "rah-rah" of American media. Our listeners were so grateful to receive European perspectives and dispassionate dispatches from the war zone.
Yes, there is a lot of talk -- but it's not the in-your-face, hateful diatribes of the likes of Rush, Sean and Glenn. It's insightful and balanced discussions of health care reform, immigration and intelligent design (from just this morning).

That's for sure,.... and a huge relief,... I do get sick of those voices!

We love NPR, especially when traveling. And Mitch, with all that Fox "news???", it's no wonder you felt you had to lie across the road

LOL. Not quite so, Carol...but we won't get into the details of THAT. I'm just thankful there's 'fair and balanced" out there somewhere...but I did lie in the road because I wanted to give my pal Vickie a chuckle. I should have thrown myself in the road January 20 '09.

Mitch, we sure would have missed you with your quick wit and sense of humor-however, Glenn Beck and your friend Bill
but back to the topic at hand-NPR is interesting, I enjoy the call-ins, but tGM always wants to change the station whenever they start. carold

It's always interesting to see how some innocuous threads can be turned into political rants, isn't it - the old "slip-in-the-comment & duck routine". But this time you're right - back to the topic at hand...

I watch only FOX, either local or their regular station, every AM. Absolutely dislike CNN.
