Yup, there was an earthquake.
6.9, located near Mexicali. I was sitting in my recliner with the laptop and felt it. It wasn't big here, but kind of rolled. Jed startled and barked, but that was the worst of it.
People need to remember that we have earthquakes ALL the time. Most of them can't be felt. They're a good thing, as they continually release pressure that's building up on the earth's crust.
And if you folks in the rest of the country think you're immune, guess again. Some of the biggest earthquakes recorded have happened OUTSIDE of California. Fortunately for us, we're more prepared for them than most other places and our buildings are able much more able to withstand shaking of that magnitude.
Welcome to the land of "Shake and Bake", Echo!

YES!!!! I felt it too, ALOT, and knew it wasn't windy, even looked
out the window to make sure the trees weren't blowing, nope,
said, wow, that was an earthquake for sure and marked down the
time and turned on the tv to wait for "breaking news" Sure enough,
half hour later they told about it in Mexicali and that lots of people
in Phoenix called the station and it also knocked down a street
light in Buckeye. I grew up in Southern California as a small child
(until 15) and don't even remember any of those. Now, here I am
hundreds of miles away from Mexicali and woohoo, we is a rockin
and a rollin, sort of. But Echo, I do know that little queezy feelin
in the tummy cause I have it too but I'm not like scared or anything,
it just feels weird and I've always had adrenalin give me the queezies.

I was just reading on CNN about it. Gads!!! No way could I imagine being in a big one.
I'd probably be so busy being sick I'd forget to be scared!
My belly is still not settled. I hope it settles down by time supper gets done in the crockpot! Can't do no regular traditional Easter dinner camping like this but I did get a small turkey ham, ham hocks and lentils when we got groceries!!! So at least we can say we had ham for Easter!
I am hoping like mad that it will taste as good as it smelled when i stirred all the seasonings in and up before I put the water in there. And if what I'm smelling right now is any indication??? Ohhhh it's gonna be a gooder! hehehe

It was a 7.2 in Baja California! And lots of strong aftershocks all over northern Mexico and southern California.

Strange, we usually feel those here, but didn't feel a thing....gonna have to check and see what time it was, I could have been at my daughters for early dinner, and she lives up on a tall hill, big house, so maybe we didn't feel it there... Chewy was with me, and Sam isn't saying if there was one while I was gone.

There are reports that it was felt all the way up to Santa Barbara, and also there was supposedly a 4.1 aftershock in Santa Monica. I guess it was more of a rolling feeling than a jolt.

I'll bet Jenny felt it in Yuma, anyone hear from her? The news had shown some
folks here in town with cracks in the cement around their pool, and the water
was jumpin all over in the pool.

I checked with the BF, he lives about 30 miles from here and he said it was a really bad one, even sloshed water out of the pool. Verrry strange that we didn't feet it here, so I checked around the house....yup, pictures off kilter a little and a new crack in the wall. Hmmmm....

I remember the 1973 Northridge quake ... I remember looking out my front window and the road was rolling, like the ripples in a pond. I was so traumatized that for months I would awaken in the middle of the night, thinking there was a quake. And there I'd be with my baby son scooped up, standing under a doorway for protection.

Yup! Felt it here. For us it was a "shaker" whereas Echo got a "roller". Depends on which fault line the movement follows, etc. Even though it's only measured in seconds, this one lasted quite awhile as quakes go. A lot of earthquakes around the world this year. Hope our turn isn't coming!

Here is a link to the earthquake map for southern California/northern Mexico area. There have been over 1100 earthquakes/aftershocks in that area within the past week! Amazing! Most are too small to feel but this map really shows how much activity is going on down there right now.

Oh Boy did we feel the earthquake!!! It hit here and was upgraded to a 7.2 . We were next door at the Neighbors house for Easter dinner and we were shaking and then the rolling and I felt like I was on a ship and getting sea sick. We thought it was never going to stop!! I ran home to make sure I did not have any damage. Felt two more after shocks. Noticed a new crack in the stucco on the casita but can't be sure if the earthquake did it or not. Cats were fine. Heard that further up in Yuma got hit harder than the Foothills, they are closer to Mexico and stuff was falling off the shelves at the grocery stores and power went out in one area. News said it was the biggest quake since 1973. One man in Mexico was killed from his house collapsing. 300 patients were transfered out of Mexicali General Hosp because of no power or water.
The water in our neighbor's pond was sloshing out of the pond! I had to check to make sure no Goldfish got beached!! Anyway everyone is talking about the quake in Mexico and feeling it here.
