Where's Liz? Texas!

What a beautiful day the Lord has made for me today. Had another nice chat with Vickie this morning, a leisurely breakfast and a short trip to tonight’s cg inside TX. This is my kind of driving.

Very soon I crossed the state line.

Texas has many little rest areas where one is allowed to stay overnight. Stopped at this one just to stretch my legs and take Roe out.

When I spy them in time to stop, I like to read the historical markers to learn more about the little towns I pass through.

I arrived early afternoon at this Corps of Engineers cg. No one was around, so I found my reserved site and settled in. All sites in this cg are paved level and situated on the water. Each has a covered picnic table, fire ring, and fish cleaning station. Elec. & water hookups, $8 with discount.

Roe and I took a walk to explore the park. Maybe it’s off season or mid-week, but it seems these nice cgs are going to waste.

What a relaxing afternoon we have had, sitting in the sun and watching the wildlife and listening to birdsong.

Bandit and Roe both approve.

There are many magnolia trees in the park, but it’s the dogwoods in bloom today.

I have my evening campfire already to light with wood located at my site. Ronnie was talking about his dutch oven pizza yesterday, so that’s what I’m making myself for dinner.....only I’ll cook it in my little toaster oven. Later, I’ll figure out the route I want to take To Port Lavaca tomorrow. Can’t wait to get there. Hope the weather stays this beautiful.

Great pics, Liz. This time of year can be so beautiful as the trees and flowers come to life. Hmmm, haven't seen a road that empty for a long time, especially in this part of FL. I love those COE campgrounds, they are always so well kept. Enjoy the evening and your trip tomorrow. carold

Just caught up on all your posts, Liz. Thanks for all the great pictures. I love the TX picnic areas. There are some other states with ones I like as well. Then there are states that have no place to pull over, not even thinking of overnight! It amazes me some of the empty places you've been. Then again, lots of people don't know about the COE cg's.

Great pics and enjoyed all the posts.

So glad you had a nice, relaxing trip today, Liz.

Did I understand that sign correctly at Magnolia Pond? Fishing is only allowed for children of registered campers, not adults?

Have a safe trip tomorrow!

Just catching up on your trip.. Super photos and tours. Glad you got to meet Vickie and company. Great folks.
Do you have that entire campground to yourself?

Vickie, that's just a small stocked pond in the cg. There's that big "pond" surrounding the cg sites for bigger folk. They might make an exception there due to accessibility, though.....and since no one else was around.

Sarah, I saw one boat trailer at the boat ramp, and two camping units at the other end of the cg. One of those actually had people sitting outside. I was the only one in my section.

Finishing breakfast here, then will take Roe out.....he's so patient. I am going to dump my tanks before I leave...as soon as there's enough light to do so.

Thanks, Liz. I've been enjoying this trip (because I don't have to drive). I've been inspired to turn my weekend trips into "field trips" for my students. I can put together a book of my travels and keep it in the classroom. It might be a fun way for them to learn about places they don't get to see.

You're making pretty good time from what I can see. Let me know if you have time for Colorado on one of your journeys. Hope you and the furry kids have a safe and pleasant drive.

Since I'm known as the curmudgy one here goes. Liz your pictures are too good not to be a larger size. I know it takes longer, but we have always enjoyed your great photo abilities. Why waste it? Now I see why I thought Bandit was a Calico - he wears bandanas!

Amen, Sparkle! Liz, I'd rather wait a bit to see larger pictures if you're willing to do it. Between those and your commentary you're often the bright spot in my day.

I'll look forward to your reports from the GTG -- it's sure to be filled with lots of fun!

Dear Ms. Curmudgeon:

Please post that Vickie is a Doofus and very, very mean.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Mitch
