Route 66

Has anyone here driven the old Route 66 from Chicago to LA? Or parts of it? I am fascinated with Rt 66 stuff, photos, memorabilia, books, etc. One of the things on my bucket list is to travel that route, at least from Oklahoma to LA, especially before a lot of it is gone forever. I know a lot of the old signs and buildings, etc are disappearing fast. I would love to take that route if I move to CA since it would be like back in the day when thousands of people packed up and headed to CA on that route to find a new life for themselves. Very apropos!
My parents drove out there once in the 50's and one night they had to leave their motel in the middle of the night because there was a murder in the room next door! I think that was somewhere in NM.

Just thought it would be interesting to hear from those who have traveled it and hear about your experiences...
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

The high school I attended in Illinois was within 1/2 mi from Rt 66 so I drove that highway allot way back when. I grew up just south of Chicago. I have driven parts of the old highway from Illinois to AZ, but don't recall allot as that was years ago. So I guess I'm absolutely no help. ;)

I drive the west end of Route 66 ALL the time. It's the major E/W drag in Azusa. We've got murals painted in honor of it on several buildings. It's a great road out here with lots of history.

Didn't Oprah do a road trip and travel a large portion of Rt. 66?

I drive it all the time, as it goes through Tulsa. I also go on drive east or west on RT 66 for awhile. A lot of interesting buildings, Round Barn, Blue whale, many of the motels, that sort of thing. I also want to go the whole route sometime. Linda

I have driven on parts of it...All of it in Oklahoma, Texas, part of MO, IL, and NM. Lived in Oklahoma a lot of years and 66 went right through OKC. That was back "in the good old days".
