Mini gtg

Spring arrived a day early and the weather was perfect for a mini gtg! Bikerchic777 (Linda) met me in Dunnellon where we enjoyed a lunch of grouper sandwiches at The Blue Gator. We learned all about our respective lives as we chatted, but the best was time was after lunch.
Linda brought with her 2 kayaks and related paraphernalia so we could kayak down the beautiful Rainbow River. Here’s Linda getting her kayak off the roof. The other one is an inflatable which I used and was impressed with it’s handiling. (Can you see another kayak in my future?
We put in at the KP Hole, along with some tubers. View from the ramp.
We pretty much drifted along with the current, not much paddling needed.
We passed abundant wildlife...
Osprey
Yellow-bellied turtles...cooters to you, Mitch.
Great Blue Herons
Anhingas...this one was drying his wings after diving for fish.
Female anhinga perched in a tree.
Colorful ducks...this one wasn’t posing
Hawk....we also could hear an owl and a woodpecker near here, but didn’t see them.
I didn’t realize I had captured this otter until I got home and uploaded my photos. First time I’d seen an otter on this river, although I knew there were some.
Soft-shelled turtle.
We explored some side trails...looking for alligators, but didn’t find them.
A kayak is a great way to explore narrow passageways.
On one of the side trails we came across the anhinga’s nesting tree...they were making a lot of noise.
This motor boat had a kayak attached on each side as they idled down the river while fishing.
A few more scenes of the river....so peaceful.
All in all it was a great day...I hope to meet up with Linda again someday.
Hope you enjoyed.
