Went to Chatfield State Park on Thursday with Bobby and Jess.

This is the resevoir. We had an interesting hike down to the shore. Very steep.

Didn't dawn on me that the water was frozen until the shot of Bobby! Looked to be allot of fun. Thanks for sharing.

Great pics! That water looked like it was thawing close to shore....glad Bobby didn't break through!

Great photos. I too wondered about safety of being on the ice with melt on edges.

I remember Chatfield! I lived in Littleton until we moved to Berthoud. In fact if we had stayed in Littleton my son would have been at the school where they had the massacre. Onto happier things. I remember that they had alternate days for sail boats and motorised. The sailboat days were much prettier!

By the looks of the shoreline and ice melt I'd guess he was standing over no more than a foot or so of water, if that much. :D

Chatfield was my favorite of the city parks for camping. My daughter did her first
water skiing there :D but of course that was many years ago. Most of our camping
was done at Carter Lake though, and I'm sure Sparkle remembers that one too as
it was near Berthoud :D did the crawdad festival there one year. The kids ate the
crawdads, but for me, it was just a taste and it wasn't like lobster either. But the
doin's were fun.

Never fear. Bobby was about three inches above the sand (or where the sand would be). The part that looks like water was actually clear ice. That was the stuff that was cracking. There were guys ice fishing in the middle of the resevoir. Seemed like a good day for it.

This was my "winging it" trip. I always make reservations and even check out the site by satellite before I go. I want everything planned (you know, in case anything unplanned happens). This was a last minute trip, one night, no reservations, no planning....and I survived! Whew. I think the park rangers were making fun of me at one place because I made reservations. They called me The Reservation. Guess I like to know there's a spot for me somewhere.
