Yesterday afternoon was a perfect day for the parade----sunny, and warm! Here are a few of the pics I took, with my favorite kids labeled----the ones I have taught over the years. They had a cardboard cutout of Andrew Weibrecht from Lake Placid, as he was already out of the country in another competition!

Our high school student, Peter Frenette's, banner.

Our high school's banner.

Our local cross-country ski center, Dewey Mountain, where our baby athletes learned how to ski.

Image
Bloomingdale Elementary School where my kids began their school careers. Both Tim and Billy were my students when I was subbing there.

Image
Vermontville's entourage in the parade, carrying the banner we sported on our town hall for the Olympics time. I would have marched with them had I not wanted to take these pictures!

Olympians' float from a distance.

Closeup of the stars----Tim Burke on far front right with Bill Demong to his left. Peter with his tongue out!

Another closeup of athletes, including cardboard Andrew!

Image
Red poster showing the number of athletes we had in Vancouver from our immediate area. Amazing!

Bill Demong and Tim Burke on far left.

A good half hour after the parade, people still pouring into the town hall.

Image
Athletes and state senators and high mukky-mucks to left front, waiting to give congrats speeches from Governor Patterson and awards, etc.

Overview of town hall stage and crowd.

Another crowd shot from balcony of town hall where I was standing.

There was one helluva lot of pride in Saranac Lake yesterday!

Neat parade. I like the Town Hall. Every community should have one it would make coming together for community events and activities easier....

Great pics! The hall reminds me a bit of the courtroom on To Kill a Mockingbird which was just on TV a few days ago. Love that movie, love your town hall!

Yesterday was a day when I wished I could have been in two places at once. The parade started at 4 .m. as did the girl's basketball game. What a great bunch of kids these athletes are. The local area alone had so many. And the tri-state area of NY/VT/NH won so many medals that if we'd been a country to ourselves we'd have surpassed many of the countries participating.

I especially enjoyed the olympics this year. Thanks Soos for such good pics of the parade and town hall event. How nice to see the kids being honored!

Nice pictures and parade. Didn't get to watch the games. You sure had a lot of athletes from your area there. Wow - impressed.

Just wonderful.
How far is the town from your house? Couldn't help but notice there was no snow on the streets.

The heart of Saranac Lake is only about 13 miles from home for me....but the difference of a few hundred feet in altitude makes us have a ton more snow out here in the boonies! It always amazes me when I get to school each day how much less snow they have there.
