Ditto for me - same reason (when it comes to animals and kids). So, I guess that makes us both cowards...but we're in good company.

Well, I know from personal experience that once you send money, they hound you to no end for more and more, and you get inundated with mailings all the time. They are very demanding and persistant. Otherwise I don't know of any problems with them as an organization for helping animals.

You will have to make it "link" friendly. I think the article gives you an idea and you are welcome to research more. Primarily their agenda is much different that their marketing would demonstrate. If you want to donate money please do it locally where you know what the money is paying for. HSUS leaders have been recorded stating that they don't believe there should be pets...period! Sounds like PETA. They have similar extreme ideas that make no sense what so ever.
