Tina mentioned this upcoming class to me.
"The Recreation Vehicle Safety & Education Foundation proudly announces the RV Lifestyle, Education & Safety Conference to be held in Bowling Green, KY, June 3-6, 2010. The conference is a unique education opportunity for current and potential RV owners to learn about all aspects of RVing. Classes will include Lifestyle courses, Safety courses, Technical courses, and Extended Time courses. There is also a plan to hold a mini maintenance course for those RVers who want to become more comfortable with the operations of their RV’s as well as learn some hands on maintenance. Hands on Driving will also be available."

Was wondering if any of you plan to attend this one or if you have been to previous classes they offer?

What a good idea. Wonder how I find one in our area. This might make me more comfortable in setting up, tearing down and driving.

This conference replaces that Life On Wheels opportunities that used to be offered at a variety of locations around the US under the direction of Gaylord Maxwell. I do not know if they plan on expanding the opportunities. I do know that the Escapees Group has been offering a "RV Boot Camp" that proceeds their large rally..... Many of the speakers for the Bowling Green conference are those that have historically presented at Life On Wheels and are well know individuals in the RV education field. I went back in 2005 and learned a lot. You can go with or without a RV. Some of the speakers specifically go through the issues of the choice process......

It was the decision of Margie Maxwell to give up Life On Wheels after the death of Gaylord. It truely was Gaylords baby and he alone was the one who knew everyone in the RV business and get sponsors. He was trying to get others to take it over before he died but it did not happen. Staff was beginning to burn out and we lost one of our best teachers Dave Balaria who died in 2008.
There is the Escapees Boot camp at different places now and Dennis Hill took over the RV Driving school when Dick Reed retired and now Dan works for Dennis with the RV Driving school. Nick Russell will have the Gypsy Journal Rally in Yuma in March at the Fairgrounds.

Hey Sarah, check with Carolyn (sunshinecruiser) because I believe she went to Bowling Green a couple of years ago. I know she thought it was very beneficial. I took the RV Driving School that Dennis Hill does and it was great. I took my class in Celina, OH this summer at the Gypsy Journal rally - $250 for 4 hours of driving, backing, parking - worth every penny of it in my opinion since we have a 40-foot MH and tow vehicle. Wouldn't have needed it though when I was driving Ms"B"Haven.

Sounds interesting....driving course would be good if I ever decide to get a larger rv or tow something.

Or you could do what I did and am still doing. Just get in the rig, make every mistake possible, hit a few things, get stuck in sand. The list will continue.

Yeah, but judging from her post about it, I don't think it "took"!

I attended the Life on Wheels conference in Bowling Green KY BEFORE I purchased my MH. It answered so many questions for me and of course brought up many more. It was valuable to me. I made many good contacts. I also took the driving course from Dennis and was very helpful to me and enhanced my confidence. Now I'm comfortable driving my 35' and pulling my car. I don't think you can ever "learn" too much. Everyday is a learning experience.

I took the Escapees RVers Boot Camp in Livingston, TX November 2009 shortly after I purchased my 30' Class C. It helped me a lot and we received helpful material and was able to purchase, if we chose to do so, some CD's and booklets that covered a lot of the material in the short sessions. I thought it was quite helpful. They did have driving school available, but I wasn't in a position to do that during the time I was there. I do intend to take a driving class and probably through Dennis' organization. Check here for their sessions currently scheduled for 2010:
http://www.escapees.com/bootcamp/. You don't have to have a rig to go, you don't need to be an Escapee member either.
