Visited the Dr in Baja

Postby Sparkle » Mon Jan 25, 2010 2:08 pm

Before I left for Mexico I wasn't feeling well, but not sick enough to go to the Dr. When we went to Algodones I bought some antibiotic which dulled things down, but 2 months later I still wasn't right ( yes I know, may times I've heard the comment, she's just not right.) I consulted Dr Google and we thought it was maybe Pleurisy. Anyway I got fed up of lying on the couch while Beth took long walks on the beach. So when we were Internetting in a restaurant in Mulege I left Beth working and went to the Pharmacy and asked where I could find a doctor who spoke English (Donde Medico habla Inglese?) Wow, they understood me! She told me to go to the hospital. Back to the restaurant, where is the hospital? Got directions. Went to the hospital and there was a nurse taking blood pressure and lots of people sitting waiting. Didn't know what to do, so back to the restaurant. Okay, I need to ask for a Fecha. Back to the hospital, asked Nurse for a Fecha. She directed me to a window. Paid $8.00 for my Fecha. I think it was a receipt. Had my blood pressure taken and weighed. I weighed 49.500. Wow! However that translated to 109lbs. While I was waiting to see the Doctor I people watched. There were lots of children running around. None of them had ever heard the word NO! Two of the mothers hauled big brown breasts out to feed there children who were running around with shoes and TEETH! Got in to see the Dr who spoke fluent English. Told him my troubles. He gave me a prescription, on a torn piece of paper, for cough medication and pain pills for my ribs, which I had hurt with all the coughing. The cough meds turned out to be tiny little gel caps. I was expecting a bottle, but boy, do they ever work. In fact Beth went and bought a pack of them too. If I wanted to stock up on pain meds there would be nothing to stop me. The prescription was really unnecesary, it just told the Pharmacist what to give me. I paid $12.00 for the meds, so a total for both Doctors visit and the meds was $20.00. I feel much better now, thank heavens says Beth 'cause she was fed up of me sleeping all the time.

Glad you're feeling better and it was apparently nothing serious. But most of all I enjoyed your people watching and problem-solving trip to the hospital.

I had pleurisy once ... thought I would die with each breath. I'm glad you're feeling better. And YES, it's
good to have pain medication when traveling ... just in case something strikes. I also like to carry meds for yeast and bladder infections -- especially on river trips where the next pharmacy is days away. ;)

Glad you're feeling better....did the doc actually diagnose you with anything or did he just say take these and see me in a week? Yup, I'm about ready for a trip to Algodones to stock up on some meds, some of which have to go in my pocket to get across the border. Thank goodness they're pretty lax there, just inspect purses and bags.

I always seem to get a bladder infection when I am on vacation, so I always bring some of those little black pills for the initial pain, until I can get to a doctor somewhere. When I went to Florida last spring to visit my girlfriend, I realized I had a bladder infection as soon as I got down there. Luckily, I had my pills and Cathy had a full bottle of antibiotics that I took to get rid of it (they were the same kind and dosage I always get for bladder infections, so I knew it would be safe to take). A real life saver!

Never good to get sick when you are suppose to be having fun!!

You have a soulmate here. I'm just getting over my bout with pleurisy - went to my doctor today as a follow-up from my visit to urgent care Thurs. The pain when you cough can sure lay you low. Feels like your lungs are tearing apart! Hope whatever meds you got do the trick. It takes awhile to get over, but hopefully you'll be your sparkly self in no time!

Hope you are feeling greater in no time.

I'm with you Sharon, but I need to go to get some dental work done since the $10K I've spent on darned dentists here have left me to the point I can barely eat anything with any density to it. :(

I seem to get a bladder infection 2 or 3 times a year and sure enough Sunday got that pain in my right side that signaled I had one coming on. Sometimes if I drink a small bottle of cranberry juice it stops it, but not this time. Didn't want to go thru the hassle of getting a prescription on a Sunday and remembered that I had read somewhere that alkaseltzer would stop one. Had some in the medicine cabinet, drank 2 tablets in a cup of water and kept drinking water.....It's Wed and so far so good! I also take cranberry capsules every day. Sorry Sparkle to hijack your post!
