Coming down with a bad case of cabin fever in anticipation of three days of rain forecast for Austin, I headed over to explore Rockport. How bad could it be? Most of my experience in Texas storms has been scattered cells, they might drop inches of precip but move on quickly. Little did I know what was waiting off the coast!

It's my first visit to Rockport. There is so much to do within a 20 mile radius I'm sure I will be visiting often.
The gal working the kiosk at the Beach Park couldn't have been sweeter and she clearly loved Rockport, even in the 25 mile per hour wind!



By the looks of the sky and the wind I decided to walk the beach sooner rather than later. This guy was fighting the wind to stay upright too.



The storm that blew in that night brought flash flood warnings and many inches of precip. It was parked over south Texas and not moving on. Still raining hard the next morning. I shopped at Walmart and Bealls. Not much else to do in that kind of weather. I did drive along the beach just to check it out. Low areas were flooded. It was fresh water, not from the ocean.



Finally, maybe 2 pm, the storm moved on to Austin, thank goodness! I went out for a walk, it was still really windy and my legs were beat from walking into that kind of wind.



The sky Friday night was fabulous, so many layers of color!



I watched this 'sky shark' until he disappeared into the night...



Home again on Saturday afternoon to meet DD and DGD for a evening of "The Box Car Preachers' bluegrass at Patsy's Cowgirl Cafe. The perfect end to my escape from cabin fever!!

What a nice get-away! And I can see the shark!

We really missed you in Florida. Can you come to Port Lavaca in April?

I've been to Rockport many times! There was a neat restaurant on the pier where the shrimp boats would come in, I think it was called the Boiling Pot. They would put a sheet of butcher paper on the table and dump a pot of shrimp, crabs, sausage and corn on the cob on the table.

Beautiful pictures...love the colors. I'm "getting away" again this weekend to the east coast of FL for 2 day stay at a State Park. Hope the weather stays warm.

You need to do the mansion toup next time you're there, and drive down Water Street. It's one way, just to look at the houses and dream, not that they are big houses, just cute. That was where we posted pics of the mailboxes. Now I need to go back and look for the Boiling Pot, that sounds good!!!

Vickie...the Boiling Pot sounds like tons of fun; will be looking for that one for sure!

Sparkle, yes, the Fulton Mansion tour is also planned for another visit. I had forgotten the mail boxes were in Rockport, thanks for reminder.

Karen....I'm hoping to drop in for at least a couple days at Port Lavaca; that will be my first week back in Texas!

There's another neat restaurant I went to last year with Beth, Lori and Ernie where they have delicious homemade soups, and many, many, many flavors of cheesecake. Can't remember the name - somthing like Mama Jams. Very funky and bright colors - no two chairs or table the same colors.
