Just a few pics from Mazatlan. One of the things I love about Mexico are the colors. Here are some of the buildings in the Historic District that have been kept up
Image
Check out the laundry at the end of the street

this is a colorful combination
Image
Check out the wires on this
Image
This one needs some TLC
Image
Saw this painter over there. He was painting around the windows on the third floor - new condos - with a bucket and brush
Image
Here is his helper holding the ladder with a rope
Image
Here is the top of the ladder with a rope going to the roof to hold it up

Maybe thats why things don't get painted too often here - no one is crazy enough to do it.
Will try to add more later - we'll be here until Saturday as The Driver still isn't feeling too well from his very bad cold.

I too am impressed with the coloration of houses and shops down there. Wish they would do some of that up here. But as soon as someone tried? Someone would complain to the city council and building codes office. ~sigh~

It's a shock to the system that while freezing up here I can click on your post and see someone in a t-shirt out painting in the bright sun light.

Love the pics and commentaries. Why is it we love those colors in Mexico, but if anyone painted their house like that in our town we'd think them garish?

I agree,..... love ...absolutely LOVE that lavender colored house. But,... here in a town about an hour away there is a little house painted that color and everyone laughs about it. It's a shame we can't be a little more relaxed and enjoy people's creativity. Three cheers for Mexico!

I know this isn't about Mexico, but if I remember correctly, when I visited Bermuda some years back, their house colors had a select color pallete to choose from and they couldn't deiviate from it. Brightly colored homes were a must. That is one island that is so well taken care of. I saw nothing run down. There were also no homes for sale because all available homes were owned and generally handed down from family to family. I also enjoyed the people there. The school kids all wore uniforms and at the bus stops they all stood back and waited for the adults to board first before they got on. No pushing or rowdiness either. So refreshing! Businessmen wore suit jackets and ties, but with Bermuda shorts!

that is a hoot!!!
So enjoyed the pictures of the town I'd think twice about painting a house if I had to climb up that ladder
that is some tall ladder
You all are so right!!! why do we feel like we have to control what someone else paints their house? And I too have heard not complementary
comments about some peoples house's and have said I like that color but on a house?? But it looks so right in the pictures seen of Mexico
thanks for sharing

Even a little weirder (to Westerners, anyway) - in Fiji, men in suit jackets, dress shirts and ties, and a skirt!

When you paint those colors INSIDE your house, the real estate listing says, "Pottery Barn colors!"

Mitch, were you in Fiji? Don't they call those skirts Sulu's or something? Even the cops wore them I loved it.

Io, We've been there a couple of times. Sulu's the right word!
Where'd you go in Fiji?
