Hitch and Fish Market.

Nothing like having a double thread. First of all, the electric jack was dead, which meant I couldn't unhitch. I also couldn't release the tension on the CHAIN of the EQUALIZER BAR (that was for Vickie and Mitch) I bought them on the Internet, so I didn't know where to go to get a new set, and didn't really need a whole set, just one bar. So anyhoo I fiddled with the wiring, after first making sure I had Mexican Good Sam Roadside coverage, and got the jack to lower, that meant I could get the bar off. Luis, the camp owner, who has become a friend, took it to his cousin who builds race cars and while we are in the Internet Cafe he is making a copy. So if it works okay, and the jack will raise we will be on our way. The cost will be around $100. If the jack baulks again I'm going to call Good Sam and get them to find me an electrical person. I'll just make sure I'm not on a beach!
Yesterday we went into Ensenada with my newly freed up truck and we went to the Fish Market. Yes, we ate Shrimp Tacos and bought fresh Shrimp to take home.

I have picked up on the skills that can be found in MX to fix "stuff"...it reminds me of the things that my father was able to "fix" 40-50 years ago. The simple mechanical and material things..... Hope that everyone gets patched back together and remain safe on the road.

thats great news! and not too expensive either. $100 is reasonable.
It amazes me when I go into public markets like that, (went to one in seattle)
and you see all the fish, my brain says "who eats all this stuff?" I guess restaurants
buy it too, but its the ONE time my eyes are not bigger than my stomach. But I love
shrimp!!! Bring it on!

Glad to hear you're getting your hitch fixed. You may want to try and "haggle" a little - sometimes they expect it and are disappointed if you don't. If you can get him to come down a little you can then "tip" him for all his help. I love the ability of the Mexican people to "make do, repair, copy, etc." They are usually pretty talented and a wonderful, happy, friendly people even tho they are what we consider "poor". I actually used to love going to Tijuana when I lived in San Diego. If you didn't act like the "ugly American" they were a joy to deal with and "haggling" done with a good sense of humor, was fun.

Hope your repairs go well. I caught some fishies that looked just like those...reminds me to dig them out of the freezer and cook em up. and Yes, highly recommend staying off the beach

Hopefully it works out ok and you are on your way again...where are you off to next?
Bet the markets are interesting but do you have a tough time buying from them? the fresh meats and seafood
would be my main concern... or is a preconceived thought not right I'm assuming no refrigeration
am I wrong?

We are still waiting for the bar, so it looks as though we will be here one more night. We don't want to be driving at New Years, but we are ready to move South. We took Beth's rig into AutoZone in Ensenada to get her battery changed if possible, but her warrenty only applies in the US so she will make do. Driving really isn't that bad when the Christmas rush is over. We bought small bottles of Fruit wash in Walmarts and soak everything for 20 minutes, so far so good. I wondered too about where all that fish went, although when we were getting our Shrimp a woman was buying a big chunk of Tuna. Although there was no refrigeration cool water was running everywhere and although it smelled fishy it wasn't an unpleasant smell.
Hopefully tomorrow we will be on our way with new stories and photos.
Oh one more thing about Walmart. The freezer section consisted of about four or five doors, not even half an aisle. There were no pre prepared foods other than some Hot Pockets and Pizza, no Frozen Dinners. Guess they make everything from scratch here.

All the fish was sitting on ice - about like going to Seattle and the market. And the locals were there buying like crazy, also. I felt very safe buying there. We didn't try to haggle, not sure if they do at the market.

Me again. It was cheaper buying Shrimp there than in San Felipe. And they were the big blues! Oh yum. Speaking about food...last night Beth made a Chicken dish using the rub she bought at the Farmers Market in Tucson. It was excellent. I think she bought the rub at the stall where she was trying the hottest Salsa's trying to get the taste of Date stuffed with goat cheese out of her mouth.

Even with all of your mechanical challenges, you two are having the BEST adventure.
Those fish looked fabulous. What I'd give for REALLY fresh fish. Mmmmm ....

fresh fish does sound so good! Love all your photos; this thread and the others you've posted lately (I'm way behind on forum posting but have been reading as I can get to it).
Hopefully your hitch will be ready soon so you can drive on; however you have such a great view of the ocean there the extra stay time shouldn't have been too much of a hardship.

Most of the Equalizer bar is done. He wanted the part that it hooks into on the truck so he can make sure he is cutting the slot correctly. So we drove down to Cantu again, only a couple of miles and are killing time at the Internet Cafe, so we should be ready to go tomorrow. We really see the difference between Mexican time and US time. Luis was going to take us to Cantu in his truck at 10.00am. We were ready! Close to 11.00 we finally left. Then he said he would check on my bar at 2.00pm, hmmm, 4.00pm? Oh well, we are learning...
