When we left San Felipe we had intended to take 3 across to Ensenada, but because of the massive road widening going on we missed the turn, even though we had spotted it on our way in. So we had to drive all the way to Mexacalli and then down towards Ensenada. Remember all those rules and promises we made that would NEVER drive in the dark on Mexcian roads? Huh! Got caught, mainly because of the massive, again, road construction. We were driving on dirt, narrow narrow roads. We were looking for Km 74, where there was a campground affiliated with a School for the Deaf. Well we were doing fine until the road got really torn up and the Km markers disapeared. Beth knew the entrance to it should be on the left, and suddenly her radio came on and she said, there it is, on the RIGHT! So we turned into to Rancho Mordu Sudo. Not a sign or indication it was a campground. Beth said, the heck with it, we are staying where we're parked until they throw us out! We walked the dogs. We were exhausted with the strain of driving way too many miles on torn up roads. We just got back to our rigs when a car drew up and two nice Americans said, Oh the campground is on the other side of the road, but you have to move the traffic cones to get in! Yeah, right, like we would stop in the middle of construction in the dark to do that. However they said, come and eat with us and then we'll show you how to get in, so we did. Can you see Beth over at the back in front of the window? She learned to sign her and my names. The children were so polite. They leaped to their feet every time an adult either left or returned to the table. When we left they gave us a big bag of oranges from their own orange grove.

The weather was really bad so we stayed there 2 nights. When we left we made a cash donation and gave them paperbacks for their library. I had some school notebooks and packets of pens, so they got those too and Beth had made fudge so they got enough for the whole school and staff. And then on to our next adventure. Eeek Ensenada!!!

I love how you two travel together,.... keep having adventures and fun and take care of each other!

How wonderful that you and Beth were able to "give back" in a meaningful way. Do you always carry notebooks and pens in the off chance that you might meet children? I belong to Frienship Force which is a citizen to citizen exchange program and gift giving is an essential part. The size or expense of the gift is not issue, it is in the giving. That's sort of a Christmas concept too. Have a merry.

holy moly, what an adventure, and so glad you finally found the campground. That entrance
looks a little washed out, guessing thats from the construction. Hope you have good luck
with internet connections along the way. Have fun!

We're just south of Ensenada - I'm sure Jean will be posting about that - while I'm catching up on work and maybe some on my blog again. Love where we're staying - LOVE the Mexican people. Loved Rancho Sordo Mudo. Did not like the road construction - but when we left Rancho Sordo Mudo, they gave us a bypass to Ensenada which got us quickly out of the road construction - and into the beautiful Mexican wine country to wind our way here. But - more of the story - will be hitting a major town 2 days before Chrismtas - do we say Wal-mart is NOT the place to try to go to in ANY country during this time?

Karen, yes it's all about giving. And it doesn't have to be much. Jean will also, I'm sure, be posting soon about some things we did for the owners/managers of where we are now. Their smiles couldn't have been bigger!

Oh, gee. I missed all the fun. NOT! All I'm doing is relaxing on the beach.

I remember in Guadalajara the parking was UNDER the Walmart and you took escalators up and down...WITH your shopping carts, somehow the ramps caught the wheels of the carts and the carts would stay put. I took a photo of our friends coming down one with their cart and the Mexicans thought I was nuts and so I yelled " Paparazzi..Paparazzi" they just laughed then

I found that Walmarts in Mexico were cleaner than the states and yes I loved how you took a pizza pan and used tongs to get pastry from the bakery...the pastries are YUMMY!!!

We love Mexico the people are so wonderful and friendly and helpful there and I too used to take school supplies to the kids. Dan and I went to 5 Indian Villages to take school supplies and the kids loved getting pencils and paper. We also went with Uncle Willy to the villages to subsidize the Farmers with bags of food so they did not have to leave the Village for food. Many only make $5 a day and if they have to leave to go buy food they lose their wages for the day so Uncle Will would bring some to them and sell them some. Many do not have a car let alone a horse so they have to walk or catch a bus and many times have to walk a long distance to get to the main road to catch the bus.

We as Americans are spoiled & rich compaired to these people, makes you really have to humble yourself when you see how they live and not complain.

I would think you could put a bumper jack or a hydraulic jack under the back end of the truck, jack it up some, put blocks under the tongue of the trailer and unlock the hitch from the ball and slowly lower the truck to release it from the hitch after taking off the load level bar you still have. Just an idea.

You can lose one of the bars really easy if you do not be sure it clicks into place when you put it on the hitch. I missed the post, could you tell me where it is so I can read it too. Don't know how she lost the bar completely. Other end should have been secured to the v part of the hitch (trailer part) She is really taking a chance running with only one of those bars. Could be very dangerous.

Are we talking an Equalizer weight distribution, anti-sway hitch bar?
Or something different?

There's no pardoning YOUR ignorance, Mitch! She lost one of the weight distribution bars, completely broke off the chain where it attaches to the bracket on the trailer tongue. Just the chain was hanging.
