A Women's RV Forum run by Women RVer's!

I've had some technical questions about my motorhome, so I posted them on another, er, larger co-ed forum. I've discovered to my glee (and horror) that when you throw fresh meat into their midst, the posters (mostly male) start out sharing & comparing the morsel, and within a short while begin to shred one another in order to be RIGHT.

I so appreciate the loving tact, humor and outright encouragement we offer here. Just wanted to say I appreciate you all, in this testosterone-free zone.

EDIT: BTW, one of my questions was how to use my MH generator to power my house in the case of a power outage. A few years ago we had a HUGE outage that lasted a week in the middle of winter. So I thought I'd ask. Enjoy.

Move into the MH. I've been on that other forum as well. Many of the male posters are really rude and know-it-all. Sure makes our forum look good. If women ran the world it would be a nicer place.

Over all your observations are accurate. I have found the regulars on the B+ Thread (that runs in the Class C Forum) very nice. They are always interested in any pictures shared and ideas....and since the thread says "B+" you get to enter any questions or topic..... Even dog pictures! They share the upgrades and repairs they have added to their small Cs.....So if anyone has a Trail Lite or BT Gulfstream....they are overall pretty supportive there.

Well Janice it started all nice and friendly. But then the roosters got to crowing and scratching the same spot. Mean while the big dogs tried to take over and size up the same tree with the little dogs!!!!

Me? I'd either live in the MH and run a heavy duty extension to the needed appliances with a power strip. Or call an electrician. JMHO

Altho candles do make for a nice light and a fireplace or wood stove makes it cozy!!!

Can't help ya on the answer, but there must be a way......I know that a lot of folks that live in cold climes keep a portable genny for just that purpose, but I would imagine that there would have to be some kind of drop cord set up and then hook into your main breaker.

Yup, sounds like the testosterone was flying....always fun to just stand back and laugh at the antics!

#1. have to agree about the "other forum" which you speak of. I posted two different questions and you'd have thought I was the stupidest woman in the world with the rude, sarcastic responses I got. And those were on the B+/C areas.
#2. how to run your house on an RV genny. Haven't a clue.
#3. guess I just wanted to flap my jaws about #1, no real help on your real question. (maybe the men were right!?!? )!

I've posted on rvtravel.com about being very careful when you get diesel fuel from Flying J and other truck stops. If at any time the handle feels overly warm or even hot quit pumping and go somewhere else. At the time I posted the Flying J's were getting sued going thru a couple of law suits about their 'heated' diesel. I don't understand all the ins and outs of it but it seems like when the diesel is heated it expands. Especially when it hits your tank. Any way what it came down to was the fact that people were paying for X number of gallons of fuel. But in actuality they weren't getting the true gallons they were paying for because the fuel 'shrank' after cooling. WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW Talk about going down in flames! I felt the heat and singe from the unbelievably nasty comments to my post. When I saw the crude nasty macho remarks I was getting I posted a link to the article in OODIA mag that I use to get. They guys on the forum still didn't believe the article. Holy smokes!!!

I think that was my last ever post to the forums on there. Didn't feel like I ever needed to go thru that again for whatever reason.

Boy, did you open a can of worms. I quit asking a question on that forum and seldom reply because of the know it all's. A new RVer can ask a simple question and some smart a$$ tells them that it has been covered before and to do a search. Just hope they don't get the impression that all RVers are rude. You don't see that happening on the women forums. Even if we don't know the answer we try to help and encourage.

Yes,... backfeed can kill a power company worker. Yes, get a licensed electriction to set up your system and switch. Yes, your 5000 will run most of your house but like some of the fellows said you can pick and choose what you operate at the same time. Don't worry about being called a "guy" it's almost become a neutral term,.... "you guys...".... But I liked how you handled that one to let him know that you were a woman and taking care of business. Way to GO!

I have a portable Honda 2000 that I take camping, with which I run my frige, computer, lights, etc. during power outages. I run it in my carport with a heavy duty cord into my house, surge protector on the end. My heat is solved by some Mr.Heater portable propane heaters. I would like to get a large gen in the future, build a vented shelter and have it wired professionally with the correct switch. But that's a "few" dollars from now.

I never go to RV.net any more. Just too much testosterone. Not worth my time. Well..... maybe for entertainment!

Hear! Hear! (And since we're the majority, why DON'T we?)

I'd certainly move into the moho in warmer weather. My major concern would be keeping my pipes from freezing in the winter.

Anyway, I was just interested in how that all works -- especially how to connect to the house itself.

I can't believe how rude the men can be. The truck camper forum over there is something else. They don't seem to waste time becoming rude to anyone. I take it with a grain of salt and see if there is anything I can learn from in between the macho stuff, otherwise I find it entertaining. I find the conversion van (B) and the tent campers forums the nicest over there, the guys don't need to prove anything.

Like Cedar, I have a Honda 2000 to run things in the camper. Actually I have 2 Honda's because they told me 1 would not run the AC, but it turned out that the AC was a smaller unit and 1 would run it. The second has come in handy during the few times they are needed at the house. I don't need the whole house to run during those times, so it works for me.

good grief! I'm glad I ask you gals the question and not the guys....funny how Dan is a driving instructor and his best students are the women because they are cautious, don't have bad habits and LISTEN!!! The guys hate it when he tells the guys they have a lead foot and don't listen!

Seems like our block was always the one that lost power when the wind storms or snow storms came thru because of the wires so close to the trees. Luckily ours were never off longer than 4 days and luckily we did have the motorhome in the driveway. We stayed cozy warm and lights on by running the generator and oddly enough the neighbors would knock on the door and want to come in lol. I remember it was so nice to stay out there in my cozy Tin Teepee and did not want to go back into my huge cold house. Our stick house was always cold even without the blackouts. Sure glad the Casita is more insulated than my stick house was.

Your story reminds me of one...Many eons ago i was in the military and was at my tech school (specific job training) and it was a very male-dominated field - about 95%. There were 2 females in class of 12 and our second block of instruction was on basic hand tools. The guys thought it was hilarious and seldom paid any attention. The other girl and I knew that we did NOT know the names of tools so we listened and studied for the test. The instructor came in with our graded finals and said "Only 2 people in the class got 100%" and ALL the guys started preening etc. He just laughed and handed Karen and I ours first with big red grades prominently circled'.
