Scheming on a flat screen ...

Postby Getupngo » Sun Nov 22, 2009 12:51 am

I've been looking at small flat-screen TVs to possibly upgrade the bedroom
analog box. I have a 13-inch'er back there, and with the necessary DTV converter
box I cannot use the bedroom TV control ... the box only can be controlled from
the front. This makes being a lazy @$$ difficult if I can't just switch channels
while relaxing.

So, being a remote control FREAK ... I'm shopping. At first, I was thinking I needed
to get something as close to 13 inches as possible. The current TV is packed into
a tiny cubby. I was thinking I could build a rough door for that space -- with a
strong latch -- and mount the TV on that.

Today, after shopping around, I realized that the TV, after mounting, would
stand about an inch or so proud of the cabinet door to the left. So I can go bigger.
:D Then, if I need to get into that area (it contains the fuse box) I could open
the latch and swing the TV away so I could open that door.

When I get my RV back, I'll start measuring. I have a friend with all the wood-working
tools, and I know he'd gladly help me cut & install the mounting door. THEN I'll count my
pennies until I get the TV -- I hope before my spring trip back to San Juan Island.

Okay, that made sense. They just want them to become energy efficiant. Sounds good to me, as they said, refrigerators use less than 30% energy than they used to.

Yeah, I heard that flat-screens can be energy hogs. Good reason to keep
our old analogs in the older rigs (she says, arguing against her own
plan).

I heard that people who use flat screen TVs have an increase of 8-10% on their electric bill!

I also heard that California wants to ban black vehicles. They get too hot, which requires using the AC more, thus more gas. Ya can't make this stuff up :? :o Their state gov't will destroy california long before the big earthquake hits. Linda

Don't know how much you're planning on spending on a TV, but Jensen makes a nice 12-volt one for just under $400. One came in my new trailer and I'm delighted with it. Has a beautiful entertainment unit, too, with CD/DVD combo, USB, and auxiliary connection. Not too shabby in my book!

Speaking of California?

Being as how they are so proactive on smog, gas, fumes etc.? And seeing as I can be rude and crude? I wonder when they are going to pass a law against farting? We all know that farts are made up of methane and that of course adds to the Greenhouse effect.

Just my little science question for the day.

Wonder if that would be a misdemeanor, pollution, illeagal toxic waste or what?
