Wind, Ramps and Google

Tonight we are staying just west of Fort Worth. Saw the campground sign from the freeway and pulled in. Was that kind of day.
Very windy all day and lots of unnecessary driving. Did 255 miles instead of 230. Instead of just going south and over the I-20 through Dallas and Fort Worth we thought we’d be smart and miss going through the cities. Ha silly us. Should have got the message when the first ramp we were going to take was closed! Actually Gypsy wanted to go straight through a little town but I overrode her and decided we’d go below the little town and catch the road we wanted on the other side. My decision led us to the first closed ramp. Then had to backtrack. The map showed the road to be a “principal road – divided” well it turned out to be divided every once in a while. Mostly it was two lanes through small towns. The Driver loved that. Then we were in a big town with traffic lights at every corner and lots of traffic. Finally got across the top and got on a southbound freeway heading for the I-20. Then the 2nd closed ramp. So we were headed right for downtown Fort Worth. All that driving and all that time (by now a couple of hours) and we were headed exactly for what we tried to avoid. THEN – found another way to get to the I-20 and just barely missed the city. We left at 9 in the morning thinking we would stop someplace and eat – well by 2:00 we still hadn’t eaten. So as I said when we saw the RV sign we pulled in.
At least the TV and Internet came right up. But then I had an email from AdSense - I had put their ads on my blog and web site. Well the feel I am a "risk" to their customers so they took the ads off. No problem with the blog just removed a couple of placers. The web pages are a nightmare. Have to go to EVERY page and remove the placers. Will take a few days to get that done.
Today we are talking about just going a short distance. Will eat something before we take off.

AdSense isn't making any sense these days. I read Tioga George's blog occasionally and he had a blog advertised Read Weng, which after the first time I never read again. Anyway, to get to the point, suddenly there was a notice stating AdSense had removed its ads from her blog. Of course the first thing you think of is there must have been somthing weird about her blog. Now I'm not so sure. I wonder what there concerns are?

Sorry the 'route best traveled' turned back to the 'route worse to travel'. What a long long day for you both. Hope you are rested and have a stress free traveling day today.

Ah Carol, you had an "ADVENTURE"!! Had a few of those myself, the most notable being an un-planned trip thru old Ft. Smith, Arkansas in a 38ft pusher towing a car, new driver....well, you get the picture. That was also one of those looking at the map and ah hah....a shortcut! LOL! Hope the rest of the trip isn't as exciting....or maybe yes? Seems The Driver was enjoying himself....

The difference in how we all travel - I avoid the interstates and freeways if at all possible to take the 2 lane roads and go through the smaller towns. You avoid the 2 lane for the interstate (except to get around the BIG towns.)

AdSense has always been quirky - that's Google - who wants to be Big Brother. Google has good and bad points - but for a forum I'm part of - we switched long ago from AdSense - even though they hadn't done that to us. However, you can make good money with them. I would email them and argue about what is in your blog that's the problem? As to the lady advertising on Tioga George's site - i went and looked after Sparkle mentioned it - might see their point there - not quite sure what that lady is.

Safe travels -

For the curious...Weng, on Tioga George's blog, is/was a Mail Order Bride from some Asian country.

Aren't unexpected adventures what helps keep life interesting?
Hope your travels for today are more calming.

I had relatives in Dallas and Allen, TX which is just North of Dallas. I feel like I have been on every road in East Texas trying to avoid the Interstates. Usually taking forever to get there and getting lost. The last time I got lost I broke down and bought a GPS. Now I have someone to argue with about which way I'm going. lol The side roads in Texas are usually better than the main roads in Louisiana but the speed limit is sometimes 70 and they want you to get on the shoulder if you are in their way. I don't like pulling over on the shoulder if I'm going 55 or 60. I find that a lot of the Texas drivers are rude. I feel like I can say that because I was born in Texas. And some of their roads that have a 70 mph speed limit and no shoulder should not be more than 55.

I have been through Houston 4 time in the last few months. I bit the bullet and took I-10 because I didn't have time to mess around. Just when I feel like I can make it through Houston ok, I hear that I-10 is closed thru downtown. I am planning on going that way tomorrow so no telling where I will end up.

Good luck on getting thru Texas.

Martha

I swear I will never drive through Houston again. 70..70..70..screech to a halt. 70..70..70..screech to a halt. So okay, the next time I thought I'll take the ring road and avoid it. 1 mile, 2 miles, 3 miles. Give me money! 1 mile, 2 miles, 3 miles. Give me money! By about the 10th Toll booth I told the guy I was running out of cash. How much more were they going to want? I'll drive on dirt roads to avoid that city.

I think AdSense cancelled me cause not that many people were clicking on the ads. No problem - Not worth the aggravation. I'll finish removing them from the web and good bye. Either that or it didn't like the "balls" oh well. Today was a good day, even warmer this aft. Still in Texas. Between Midland and Odessa.

Sparkle, you must drive like my DH. There's no way I'm going 70 thru Houston. There's 6 frickin lanes, they can go around me. When we were hauling horses I made sure I was driving when we got to Houston. As much as I hated driving there, it was better than him topping a hill with a 4 horse trailer and the traffic is stopped. He just about gave me a heart attack some times. I almost can't ride with him anymore.

Your comments reminded me of this road sign I passed in NH.
