..

What do some of you use for your online bill paying? George has been having nothing but trouble lately with Quicken Bill Pay...and they used to be so good.

Thanks!

Never had a problem with Quicken; no experience with anything else.

I've only used each companies own website to submit a payment. Have never had
a problem doing it that way.

I use my bank's online Billpay. However, prior to going to AK this summer, I gave some billers permission to automatically deduct payment from my account in case I did not have internet service to get to my bank website to do it. That worked out well, so haven't changed it back. I just check to make sure the proper amt. was deducted. I receive all the bills I can in paperless form online. Some still don't have that option.

So, when you use a company's bill pay online,

1) you have no issues giving them your bank account number? and

2) Is the money taken from your checking account before you get to see the bill details in order to prepare for the onslaught of withdrawals?

I am a CONTROL freak so I use my online bank billpay. I pay everything myself. NO automatic thingees for me. I just set up all the accounts to pay and then select MANUAL and I pay them myself every month It is just like using a check register. Love it.

#1 no, they get my bank account number however I pay it,
#2 when I log onto each companies account, my statement is right there for me to
go over it, then I click submit payment and they ask me which account to use,
in most cases and from now on it will be just the same bank account. (I used
to have 2)
I must add that I do have a couple that come out automatically cause thats how I
set them up and in that case they send me an email to remind me the payment is
coming out on such and such a date. I either say ok, or crap. At least the bank
pays it if its just before payday but they do charge me which is why I'll say crap, cause
thats usually a $30 fee I didn't budget on.

I always used my banks online bill payment - have been doing it for years and years - long before going on the road 4 1/2 years ago. Like Liz, I switched my cell and credit cards to automatically pay when I did the AK trip. I've loved it. I have no problem giving them the credit card number or bank account number. It's safe. All of mine take the payments on the due date - so if you want to check, you have the entire time up till then to do so. I pay everything in full, so with credit cards, there isn't the chance of extra fees because I'm without internet and something is due.

My only bills that are automatic pay are those that are reliable figures....even the electric generally falls within a certain range for each season (I budget so much each month and go back and put in the exact amount when I find it out) and as Beth or someone stated, I always know ahead of time what the actual amount will be so that if there should be a surprise, I have time to transfer something into the checking account to cover it...

most of ours are automatically paid only one isn't and golly I wish it was :D
know when they are due or which paycheck they come out and register them in the
little book being able to go into the banks web site helps petty much know what is
going on and if there is a surprise coming can transfer

I'm with Karen, Have paid my bills online for many years, right now through my online bank. I've NEVER had them automatically deducted. Need that sense of control. I enter the paid bills into Quicken and automatically reconcile the account each day. So easy.

I also use my bank's online bill pay. The regular payments that are always the same amount like auto, rv, mortgage are set up with automatic payments for the time length of the loan. Insurance payments are under unlimited months and the other bills I enter each month and put the due date from each bill. Simple, even Mitch could do it!

Any bill that is exactly the same each month, (mortgage, etc) I set up on auto pay and since they're always paid on the same day of the month I know when they're coming out of my account. I DO check my bank statement almost daily just to be sure. On things where the payment will vary (credit card, et) I use the company web site to pay. I have never had a problem doing it this way. My only problem was with Good Sam's ERS - they deducted my annual fee from my bank account and I had no notice of the date. When I called and yelled at them for no notification I was told 'we MAILED you notice. I asked them what part of "FULLTIME RVER" they didn't understand and didn't they have access to email? I write probably 5 or 6 checks A YEAR anymore. Gotta love computers.
