Where's Liz? St. Augustine Beach

Our campsite at Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine. A beautiful park, but Roe wanted to go to the beach…not allowed in the park.
Image

It was a bit of a walk outside the park to dog-friendly St. Augustine beach, but well worth the effort. Here’s Roe chasing balls in the surf with his new dog-friend Spody.
Image

It’s not California, but the surf was up on Saturday and a surfing competition underway when we arrived.

The boardwalk and surfer’s competition tents…. the music and entertainment were free.

Our spot on the beach

Where we could watch the children and the surfers

Roe couldn’t understand why everyone didn’t stop to say how cute he is…a lot of them did, but not EVERYone.
Image

The weather was perfect for sun worshipers.
Image

Near checkout time we walked back to the cg, drove to Spody’s folk’s beachside apartment in Verano Beach (just north of St. Augustine) for lunch and a visit to their beach….a lot less crowded.

Kite surfer…first time I’d seen someone doing that….looked hard, but a lot of fun.

Hope you enjoyed the day at the beach.

What a pretty beach, Liz. I thought you were going to be there for the weekend or I guess I just assumed. Is it just a day park, no overnight parking allowed? Anyway, you and Roe had a nice outing, thanks for sharing it with us.

I camped at Anastasia Friday night in their last available campsite. Had to come home tonight anyway for church tomorrow. It's only a 1 1/2 hr. drive from home. I plan to go back again during the week when I can spend more time ...planning a winter "tour" of the coast. It's fun to plan. But this week, I just needed to get out and camp again if only for one night. Had to test out the new refer I've been waiting, and waiting for. It worked well.

I know ya'll won't believe me, but Ive never been to a real ocean beach. Well, I was in Mazatlan once,, but there wasn't much to see and I never even walked on it, nor got my feet in the water. Was february and it was only in the 60's. Being from Colorado at the time, it seemed warm,, but not nearly warm enough to get WET other than in the shower! ;)

Looks pretty tho.... I am told that one has to develop a taste for loving the beach. Guess one has to VISIT one first,, HUH?

;)

maybe subconciously I know i'm missing something and I dont need anything ELSE to dream about! ;),,, do I?

Thanks Liz for giving us those great pics of the ocean..... I'm way overdue for my Atlantic "fix".... it's been about 3 years since I've been over to Maine coast. There's nothing like that smell! Looks like you had a great time.

what lovely pictures Liz, thank you for posting them. I haven't been to a beach in
many many MANY years but I can still smell it. Would be nice to go again. The
closest beach to me would be San Diego area, just a day drive. But I've wanted
to go to the beach off the coast of Texas, probably a two day drive. Some day
it will happen, for now I only dream.
JanetA.....you and me are both dreaming of the day.

LOVE the beach pics. Wish I was there. Also wish I could let my dogs off leash. They're just not other dog friendly - no socialization when they were pups.

Liz - Thanks for the great pix! Looks like you are enjoying a very relaxing day. I love the beach and live just 5-10 min away from the Pacific ocean. Not too many kite surfers here BUT when we stay in Ventura, CA and walk over to the beach, there's lots of kite surfers to watch and it's particularly neat at sunset - sometimes sailboats in the background!! Perfect!!

Oh, by the way, we are having wonderful, sunny weather today. I love the sunshine!!
