Tell me how crazy I am ...

I'm considering an interesting possibility. A Texas coastal wildlife refuge has a new SUMMER (YEEEK!
) kayak tour program to educate the public on the value of its wetlands. I'd be taking groups out and then giving them snorkels so they could float and watch wildlife under water. I'm a paddler and VERY tempted to help them develop this program.
So ... HOW crazy am I?

If you don't mind heat and humdity,, GO GO GO! ! ! Just be prepared for that. It's the #1 reason I plan to NEVEr spend another summer in my home state as soon as humanly possible! Just too many wonderful places in this good old USA that are more bearable in summer.
Best of luck to you and from MY standpoint, just think long and hard about Tx in summer, even on the coast! UGG!

I'd say list your pros and cons and make a decision. If you are very tempted sounds like something that would win in the pros part. Yes, be prepared for the heat and humidity, but hey, if you can jump in the water too, then you could cool off, LOL. Don't let the fact that it's Summer deter you as there are people who live there and people who go to there for vacation too. Be prepared for the fact that the program is a work in progress and may have some things to be worked out so it may depend on how flexible you are or tolerant of idiots, LOL. And as Beth and others have said, your home has wheels, ya know!

YOU ARE CRAZY !!!!!
You asked. All kidding aside, I agree with Vicki (Yes Mitch, I said it and do). List all the pros and cons. Being a paddler, it might just be a perfect job and getting in on the beginning of a program would be exciting also. What kind of training would you be required to have to take people on tour and then monitor them while they were in the water? (Red Cross Lifesaving ?) Would you have a place to stay on premises, get paid, etc.? If the pros out weight the cons, why not try. If things don't work out, so be it, at least you tried. It will be hot and humid, but you will be on/near the water, which will help. Keep us posted on your decision. Linda

Probably no lifesaving skills needed, Linda. The water in this estuary is three feet deep. LOL. I would live in my RV, no pay.

I agree...make a list of pros/cons and evaluate if it will work for you and then go for it - if it fits your criteria.

If after getting all the facts it still sounds like a great job-TRY IT. It's only a few months out of your life and as long a you have air conditioning and probably a lot of DEET, it could be fun. Of course, this is coming from an almost (moved here at 3 months ) native Floridian-grew up in Miami-with no air conditioner- and lived in Tampa for over 30 years
OR NOT
do I like to sit on the fence or what. carold

Dear Giddyap, look at it this way...when you are an old lady sitting in your rocking chair in the nursing home, will you be thinking I should have taken that neat job?

You don't say where on the coast - but I don't think crazy at all. I workamped on the TX coast summer before last and loved it. Liked the weather better than winter there. My g/f lives 15 miles inland - was much hotter there than right on the coast - had the coastal breezes - and I love the beach. I say - go for it.
But yep, you are crazy - just not about taking this job - hahahaha.

As long as you can take the temps and have AC for the pups, I say go for it.
