We went to Frys Electronics again, found out about a USB cable that you can connect to two computers and transfer data back and forth. Good to have and I know we couldn’t find it at home. Coming back from Frys – it was 105 out according to the Jeeps Temp guage Image
and we passed a group playing GOLF – what part of 105 didn’t they understand? Gads!
Image
Then got a really good picture of the Luxor and New York New York. Where else can you go from Egypt
to New York just by crossing a street?
Image
Image
What a city. And the other entertainment like the rides. This is just crazy. See the little pencil like thing hanging over the edge? It’s a ride that tips out over the building and when it tips the car slams down the slope and jerks to a halt. All 1,149 feet above The Strip. No Thanks.
Image
And then there is Red Rock Canyon. This picture was taken just as we passed the last houses built at the Western city limits.
Image
Hard to believe there is a huge city just behind us. Entering the Red Rock Canyon Park. Again we got to use our Golden Age Passport….Get one if you can.
Image
Some information on why the rocks are red.
Image
It is surprising how much and how many different kinds of vegetation grow in these rocks.
Image
Image
My favorite is the Joshua Tree – they are so interesting.
Image
There was a big fire here a few years ago and it killed most of the Joshua Trees in this area. They look so forlorn all bent over and black.
Image
Here you can see the different colors of the layers of the rocks.
Image
Image
There are hiking trails all over here – if you want to hike in triple digit temperatures.
There are herds of wild burros and horses here but we didn’t see any. The only time I’ve ever seen them I didn’t have my camera with me. Figures.
Once out of the canyon we drove down towards the I-15 on Blue Diamond Road. Boy has it changed. Housing development after housing development. But who would want to live like this?
Image
They are only about five feet apart. If you sneeze your neighbor says Bless You. And no back yards at all. Almost like living in a condo. Except that the walls don’t quite touch.
Then we went to the big Bass Pro Shop – what a place. Again if you haven’t been to one go when you see one. Worth the trip. Except you might want to leave the man of the family in the car. I love these mail boxes.
Image
We did manage to get out of there without spending anything. This one is attached to the Silverton Hotel which in itself is interesting. While there we saw a Mermaid. Yes really.
Image
They have a huge fish tank and girls dressed as Mermaids go in there and play with the fish and entertain the kids in the audience.
So see there is more to Vegas then sin.

Carol, thanks for sharing the pictures. They are great. That housing division reminds me of one I lived in in Canada. They called it zero lot line. You could lean out your window and touch the house next door. I actually tried it once, who says I need a life?  I love the drastic differences that the desert provides. Thanks again for sharing and drive safely when going home. Linda

Those are some of the ugliest houses I've ever seen! Can't imagine living like that. Of course to this country gal who lives out in the woods -- I can't even imagine having neighbors at all unless they are at least a mile or so away! But people that have always lived in cities couldn't imagine living where i do, so i guess it's all about diversity and the celebration of it, right?

I absolutely love red rock country. Guess that's why I love New Mexico and northern Arizona. I've asked my daughter when I die to have me cremated and scatter my ashes somewhere in New Mexico red rock area. Gonna have my dogs cremated too and our ashes mixed and scattered together. Told her if she buried me in Texas I'd haunt her FOREVER. As much as I enjoy forested areas there's something about open desert land - you either love it or hate it. Thanks f or the pictures. You gotta love Vegas just because its so unreal.

Carol,
Since we live here now, Red Rock Canyon is on our list of local places to visit. Thanks for the preview, and I just shared the pix w/Ron also. He got his Golden Age Passport several years ago, so we're good to go.....just need to go! Maybe we can meet up the next time that you're heading this way. Enjoy your trip home.

very interesting pictures, thank you, I see a puzzle in a couple of them. Love BassPro
Shops, have one around the corner and its just fun to go in and look around, course
our big tank doesn't have mermaids in it but it does have alot of big fish. The climbing
wall is fun to watch people try the climbing and repelling thing. (Especially the kids.)

The pictures are awesome! I love Las Vegas and the wonderful areas around it.

BUT I want to know more about the cable that you referred to in the first sentence!

We went to Frys Electronics again, found out about a USB cable that you can connect to two computers and transfer data back and forth.

I'm a 'techie-wannabe' and love new stuff like that.

Carol, as usual, great pictures. The colors were just beautiful and I really liked the pics of the strip. May be the only way I will ever see any of it. Hoping to make it out there again though, to the surrounding area. Its gorgeous, I think winter though, Az, is not a summer trip, done that and not again.

Safe travels,
Carol
