My Saturday

After the first 2 weeks of school I was exhausted and not moving very quickly. Usually I get up and get going, but not today. I'd wanted to go to the beach with Jed, my dog, and decided that later was better than not at all. It's about a 45 minute drive but well worth the effort. There's only one beach in L.A. county that allows dogs on it and it's absolutely beautiful. It's also a popular beach for surfing, and the folks on their boards are more than willing to share. Here are a couple of pictures of Jed in the water (I had a friend along with me -- no camera in the ocean for me!). He really enjoys it, and so do I. Just wish it wasn't so far away!

He loves to run in the water, preferably with a tennis ball in his mouth:

I don't mind getting wet, either!

Dangerous Staph Germs Found at West Coast Beaches
Saturday, September 12, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO — Dangerous staph bacteria have been found in sand and water for the first time at five public beaches along the coast of Washington, and scientists think the state is not the only one with this problem.

The germ is MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus — a hard-to-treat bug once rarely seen outside of hospitals but that increasingly is spreading in ordinary community settings such as schools, locker rooms and gyms.

The germ causes nasty skin infections as well as pneumonia and other life-threatening problems. It spreads mostly through human contact. Little is known about environmental sources that also may harbor the germ.

Jed was one happy camper, Mom!! What fun! Thanks for sharing!

Mitch, I heard that on the local news last night, only they wouldn't say what bacteria, nor which beaches. ;)

Hey laura, welcome! Nice to see Jed having such a great time! He's a great dog, for those of you who haven't met him. I'll be at Doheny Beach with my Jeep Club 20-25th...no dogs allowed on the beach there, but since Chewy isn't much of a water dog it's not a big deal.
