I got a VIRUS ALERT on TV Listing link

I didn't want to go back to the topic but when I clicked on the TV listing link I got a virus alert. I think it was a fake said my computer was infected, showed a long list and kept trying to install a file to 'fix' it which I suspect was the virus. I shut my computer down and did a system restore. Checked my AVG scans which said no virus detected. I don't know if anyone else had this happen just wanted to say what I experienced!

Do you have pop-ups blocked? I'm guessing it was a pop-up ad trying to get you to download some 'solution' (for a cost, of course...)

OH, BJ good thing you caught that before whatever tried to jack your puter got in there. I clicked on the link twice, once to look then after thinking about it, went back and bookmarked it for when on the road and never got anything bad, so I'll say so far so good!

I just did a more thorough search about zap2it.com, and they are owned by the Tribune Company, a very large and legitimate organization.
I think it's a safe site and won't hesitate to use it when we're traveling.
Whew. Scared me for a moment, BJ, cuz I'm usually right on top of that kind of stuff!

I do have pop ups blocked but something did come up on the first page. I scrolled past it & clicked on a second page looking for where to get the listings. One of the things that did pop up to say I had a virus said Virus Doctor Online Protect. It started loading a file that said somethings else but all I saw of that was it ended with bienary (sp) file I was trying to get it off my screen and it wouldn't go so I shut down. Also I'm using Firefox browser.

When my daughter was working at the computer store she downloaded several free programs for me; two virus protections and two malware programs. I used to use AVG but it wasn't catching some problems. If you go to www.filehippo.com there are lists of programs you can download for free. I'm using Bitdefener and PC Tools Anti Virus (www.pctools.com). For malware I have A-Squared and Malwarebyte. I have to keep reminding my friend that these programs only work if you update them at LEAST once a week otherwise they don't catch new stuff. I think she had AVG and NEVER updated it and surprise, surprise, she got hit with a nasty virus. I also use Mozilla Foxfire and have had fewer problems since I quit using Internet Explorer.
