Do any of you have heels like velcro (no, not heels as in not-so-nice, inconsiderate men, but the things at the end of your feet)????

If you've battled the velcro heel and won, what's you're secret?
It's a battle I'm losing...

PS: By velcro, I mean when you walk barefoot across berber carpet, your heels catch, just like velcro...
PPS: Don't Google Image Search 'dry heels'...it's not pretty...nothing there I'd want to post - they'd all give you nightmares!

When mine get bad, but not NEAR as BAD as YOURS, I use Johnson's Baby Cream (not lotion) on them before going to bed.

Since finding this neat tool at Excaliber Knives and Gifts, I now have nice soft heels.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OA ... 5W7N0BMVRJ

It's a Henckels Pedro Ceramic Callous Remover. $16.95 at Amazon.
The one I use has a rough side and a not so rough side. (Like an emory board). At the very end of my shower, after standing in the warm water to soften the callouses, I use the rough side and then finish with the not so rough side. After I dry off I make sure I use Eucerin lotion. It's the lotion recommended by dermatologists.

Worked for me!!

My feet will get kinda bad if I don't keep working on them especially in summer when I wear my crocs a lot. I bought a handly tool, I think at Wal*Mart that has 4 surfaces to work on feet. The 1st thing to do is soak your feet in warm epsom salt water to soften the skin and dry. You can hand rub your feet after a good soak and really exfolitate the tops of feet and ankels...really feels great! Soak feet at least once per week. A sandpaper type surface will work to sand down the rough skin &/or caluses. Don't sand down so far you become sore. If you have a lot of dryness or caluse build up do it in a couple session a few days apart. Then brush or wash off the flakes and apply a heavy foot cream. I like to use Udderly Smooth's shay butter cream in the cannister that has the Holstein cow design on it available at Wal*Mart. And I alternate &/or mix with Fruit of the Earth's Vitamin E cream. If your feet are bad -- moisturize with these 2 to 3 times daily. Sand the rough off when it apprears. The key is -- keep your feet clean and softened. Never go to bed with dirty feet. I like to wash my feet with Noxema skin cleanser at night then apply the cream -- so cooling & refreshing! In summer its hard when we all wear sandals a lot but dirt and bacteria are a major problem with summer feet. If you wear sandals a lot, clean them often. Crocs are espcially easy to spray with cleaner. Even leather sandals should be cleaned. Remember shoes & bare feet are on the dirtiest/germiest surfaced we come into contact with. I know it feels good but if you have cracked feet -- don't go barefoot. Always wear at least clean sandals, slippers or socks.

In winter feet become just about as dry so I follow the same routine in winter...clean and moisturize often.

before I retired, for my birthday one year, several of my staff gave me a certificate for a pedicure....can we say heaven...... I have occasionally gone back.....if mama's feet aren't happy, mama isn't happy.... Ah, but most of the time I sand away at them with a file.....what Lenora said but somehow it doesn't seem as delicate when your feet are the size of mine (12 :? ) ...... ;)

So, there's no quick cure! I sand, file, cream...if I do it every day, twice a day, it's okay. What a pain, though.
You can't hardly skip a day!
Right now, I have little footies on with cream, and my feet are absolutely on fire HOT.
So, I'll take them off, but I can't get out of bed then unless I put them back on because I'll leave little creamy footprints all over the wood floor!!! :(

My girlfriend got me one of those little Pedieggs thing...you use it on completely dry, unlotioned feed. Works pretty good. But I usually forget until I just get out of the shower and you can't use it then. I have a metal file in the shower.

I used to get pedicures all the time when I lived up north.
Can't find anyone down here who knows how to do it right.

I'll soak my tooties and use a pumice stone. Have also found a foot product from Oil of "O'lady" that works fairly well for removing the crusties...but what I really recommended is Dionne Udder Balm when you are done with all the exfoliating...yes it's made for dairy cows teats but it is great for you feet, hands, legs and elbows...don't let the thought gross you out. It has as a nice odor and it really works. You'll probably have to go to a farm supply store to buy it. Sometimes you can find it in 3 ounce tubes in cosmetic sections of stores but at a farm supply store you can buy a pound jar of it for less than a 3 ounce tube. If you consider the extreme elements that cow's udders are submitted to in the winter you know that it has to be potent stuff! I apply a generous amount then put on a pair of socks before I go to bed.
Now that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You mean I am not the only one with this problem? :o I soak my feet with a litle bit of baby oil in the water to soften my feet and then file them. Somewhere in the shed or casita is my power file that I used to use on peoples feet when I did podiatry care . Arizona has hard water so it is hard to keep my feet soft and calloused free. Wal-Mart had a special cream called "Heel Rescue, Superior moisturizing foot cream" I swear by it and use it on my legs and elbows too. I like it because it does not feel greasy.

Velcro heels ain't no fun at all, especially when you stuff them into a sleeping bag and they get 'caught' half-way down! Other than trying to find a way to put them to good use (mouse catching? dust kitty picking up? crumb eliminator? hanging upside down from ceilings?) I use a good raspy file to smooth them out and then put vaseline on them with socks over them. If I forget about them for a while, I get deep, really SORE cracks that develop in my heels, and then I am crippled for a while until they heal up. OUCH! The results of going barefooted for years and years, and from wearing sandles and bare-foot-like shoes! The worst injuries happen when I am absentmindedly sitting and picking the tough, dead skin off! I sometimes get so deep they bleed....idiotic habit!

Sigh----Velcro heels are a sore subject, eh?? :)

I rub my feet with olive oil cover with socks and go to bed. Might take more than one night but it worth a try.
