Well I certainly can't be a gossip at work so sharing this info with you all is my
best solution cause you know no one!!
First off, cause Soos asked,,, Last year after my incident with the little girl stepping
in front of my bus and loosing my 8 year long run on that route, they sent me up to
a north school where all the rich, VERY rich kids live and their parents are very
difficult. So I took it upon myself to be my usual charming self and greet the kids
each day and say good by at the end. I had the same kids morning and afternoon.
Eventually they started to open up and say good morning back to me and when I
would tell them to have a good weekend, that came back too. SOoooo, during the
summer when the route schedulers reviews the routes and changes stops etc, one
of our other schools changed their belltime to match the north rich school and for
what ever reason she thought was a good idea, she took my afternoon off my run
and replaced it with the "other" school. I told her it made no sense cause it was
the same timeblock. Then the other driver (the naughty one) had the "other" school
for morning and my school for afternoon, me having my school for morning and the
other for afternoon. So thats how that happen Soos.
So now this morning when I started picking up the kids I would step off the door and
tell the parents I was back for afternoon and they were so happy, even got hugs from
the parents, I was awstruck! Told them when we got to school I would make the
announcement to the kids before they got off to look for ME after school cause I WAS BACK!!!!
The kids were absolutely thrilled and got all kinds of hoopla going on and as they all
got off each one was saying how happy they were to have me back. Made me feel
good Then when I picked them up after school and dropped them off the parents
were all telling me HORROR stories and how so many kids were getting off the bus
in tears that driver was so mean. Yelled at one of my most very polite kids for him
to shut up and mind his own business. Come to find out today, that driver was also
on the cell phone talking to the boss but when they pulled her tape to get the proof
the camera somehow wasn't working. She was on 3 days administrative leave and
thats how she thought she was going to loose her job. The parents had asked to have
the video pulled to prove it but unfortunately it didn't show up so thats how she didn't
loose her job. They are very strict about cell phone use! I know all the facts now and
thats why I can't say anything at work cause, well, then that would just be gossip.
Although I do feel sometimes things should be out in the open and if a driver got
fired it should be known why so other drivers would mind there own P & Q's but they
don't it that way there, everything is always hush hush. So, I've been very careful
not to say any names, people, children or school names, but thats the story and one of
my little guys she even got suspended
These parents rush rush rush to catch the school bus cause their lives are so busy and
I always wait and don't harrass them for being late. I purposely wrote my times on the
route to allow for this cause it happens. I always wait till the kids get seated before
I start to move the bus. I also tell kids not to run for the bus when their late, that I
will see them and waite for them, cause I would not want to see them fall and skin a
knee and get hurt. So they just hurry instead. Kids loose things and I find them and
save them or return it to the school right away in case its something they need, like
their LUNCH,
Now, everybody is happy and someday that mean bus driver will get her due and it
won't have anything to do with me. She will do it to herself.
One more thing, parents said she was driving down the road with kids hanging out
the windows, (good grief, how dangerous)

Ava, I hope you take a minute when you go to bed tonight and lay there and think about what those little kids could one day become and how your kindness will help give them the self confidence that they need to succeed and the knowledge that you are there for them if they ever need an adult to reach out to. You are a special person.

it sounds like she needs to be let go...glad you are BACK to the right route!!! My nephew got married this past weekend and his new bride has a daughter not sure if she is in kindergarten or first grade but believe it is kindergarten the grandmother was suppose to pick her up but she was running late and speeding and got stopped so was even later and the little girl got on the bus 3 of them were dropped off somewhere with no adult there to meet them not knowing where to go what a nightmare!!! Don't think the driver was suppose to drop them off with noone to meet them according to some of my nieces but then rules are different everywhere depending upon the district...it just seems so unsafe everyone is so lucky that all the little ones were found and got to there homes ok but they were really scared.

Bus drivers can make or break a child's experience at school. They're often the first school representative to greet them in the morning and the last one to see them at the end of their day. It's got to be one of the most difficult school-related jobs there is, because not only do they have to deal with dozens of kids of different ages, but also the public who often doesn't respect the precious cargo they're carrying by driving like fools and putting everyone in danger.

Ava, I'm with you on what's going to happen to that lousy driver. Eventually she'll get her due. I've been known to call a school district when I see a driver doing something stupid. Once I saw one driving with the music so loud that I could hear it with my windows closed and my own stereo on AND high school kids leaning out the window screaming at people on the street. And to top it off, the guy wasn't in uniform.

Thanks for being there for those kids. Folks like you make my job easier.

Kindergartners always have to be received by a parent or relative, and I for one, even
if the kid is a 5th grader and mom is always there, if a day happens that mom isn't
there I will ask if they are ok to go home on their own. Any of the little ones I keep
on the bus and mom will track me down and catch up with me at the last stop. Up
there where my route is, we have lots of rattlesnakes, lots of coyotes, bobcats and
havalina. The havalina are all over and very dangerous. I should get busy with my
camera and take some pictures of the area for you all. Its mountainy desert, does
that make sense?

Now we know "The Rest Of The Story".... Good for you, Ava....Glad you are back where you belong with the kids who really appreciate and love you.....and yes, "the big meany bus driver" will get her's someday..... I rode the bus thru my senior year and can appreciate your dedication and care....

You are great! And the old saying "what goes around comes around" will prove out for that other driver. Eventually. You have the best interest of the kids in your heart.

I can sure understand why your kids and parents are glad to have you back. Its obvious that you really care. The other driver will get her due, sometimes it just takes time.
