The Annual Busy "B" Corn Roast...

Awhile ago I mentioned that my family has an annual corn roast that perked interest here.....So since I attended it today I thought I'd share some photos of this year's food fest at my family's farm in Northern PA...
First....the house I grew up in....my sister, Barb, and her hubby now run the farm....
Image
Now to the corn roast....we build a big camp/bomb fire and burn it into a big pile of coals...then the coals are pushed to the sides and corn with husks on that have been soaking in water for 4-5 hours are placed in the center. Then the coals are put over them.....After about 18-20 minutes, the coals are pushed to the side again and a done test is done by pulling the husk back on an ear...
Image
Family friend, Mike, who's a fireman locally doing the test....he always brings his gear...but the gear isn't nessarary.... ;)
The corn being declared ready to eat, is pulled quickly from the pit, husked, and rushed to the butter for eating...

My Mom enjoying a cold beer with her corn and picnic dinner..
You always have to have a roasted hot dog or 2....
Image
Then it's lots of talk of the summer coming to an end, eating smores and then....
Eyeing Thanksgiving Day dinner.....

Have had a nice weekend, but am done with picnics for awhile...(3 so far this weekend)....and am now ready to head to a quiet winter in GA, camphosting...

Hope your Labor Day Weekend is going well....

Love the house, somehow it reminded me of the house in Field of Dreams, is that the right movie, Build it and they will come? We used to soak our corn in icewater too and when we had a BBQ for a bunch of people they were in serious doubt it would work. It did! Delicious. Thank you for bringing back happy memories.

Oh the Turkey. We used to raise Broad Breasted Bronzes. We would have them processed and give some as gifts. I bought luggage tags and attached them to the drumsticks with names like Sister Mary Elizabeth. ( they LOOKED Catholic)

What a neat family GTG, Lori. I love the farm property, and the traditional corn feast. It's so much fun to see other people's family doings on the holidays----thanks for the great pics!

Is your GA camphosting thing a new place this year? Do you know what your jobs will be yet? Or what your campsite will look like? And, one more question----how did you find the job? Gotta get my info collected this year as next year I may be in dire need of a job somewhere!

Okay, I'm wanting to know why Mike the local fireman friend is dressed more to impress AlienRox and not in Soos Sweet Sweats?

Well Vicki, this is what happens when men dress themselves.  Soos here is a definite candidate for your clothing line. He would have been the talk of the reunion for years to come. Talk about wasted opportunities. Thanks for sharing the photos Lori, I looks like a good time was had by all. Linda

  about the "space suit" that Mike has on....the kids are always impressed with it..... ;) Safety first!!!

Soos, we camphosted here winter before last...(07-08)....so we do know the job, etc.....being a military campground, camphosting is usually a "word of mouth" job....and usually camp hosts are military retired, active duty, or someone who has some knowledge of how the military works, lingo, etc....
Here's a photo of our HOST camp site from '07-08...

You might want to go to GA state parks and look for their camphosting postings....I can think of a couple in the Savannah area....

Yep, have been hearing for years on how much I look like my Mom... And thanks for all the nice comments on the photos....yes, we had a grand time....as I left around 8pm, my sister told me the party ended around 11pm....early for that bunch...must be we're all getting older...

I am impressed with FIREMAN MIKE! After all, I do love HOT MEN!

That shiney silver suit reminded me of my childhood along the shores of gitchee-goomie (CB), just south of KSC ---- and the connection to the Astronauts (so 'they' say they were) that hung out there in the 'early days'.

No wonder I love the color purple, and silver, and gold.

Looks like a good time was had by all at this roast.
