I was filing the pics of today's backyard creature (on my other post today) and I stumbled across this wedding picture. We were married in a tiny jungle village in Fiji on the island of Vanua Levu. Our wedding garb was made out of traditional tree bark 'cloth' called tapa. The painted dots on George's head were for 'fertility' (I hoped against hope there was no truth to these island beliefs). They had lost their circular shape because it was HOT and HUMID in that jungle! Wish I knew where the other pictures were - the dancing in the village was wonderful...

See, this is what you have to look at from me if I can't get out camping!!! Oh, FYI, I wasn't overweight back then - a tree bark wedding dress adds 20 pounds and the camera adds 10 pounds ...I was pretty darn skinny under all that bark!!

And it was actually the renewal of our wedding vows on 15th anniversary...

In a sense, it was kinda like camping - a little primitive in the South Pacific back then...

From the jungle to your beautiful home,..... nice going you two! I'll bet nobody else here has a wedding pic like that one. I know both of mine are very mundane by comparison! Love it!

Is that the kind of wedding bark that has to be peeled off??? And what's the plan for the next big anniversary? Inquiring minds want to know? carold

Let's see - we just had our 35th in April. I cooked a nice dinner. Did dishes. He went to his den for his tv shows. I went to the computer and my tv. Not even cards this year! Alzheimer's sure puts a damper on things (he used to be the greatest card giver! But I wouldn't trade one year together for anything!

Maybe I can convince him to go on another great adventure and he just won't remember it??? Hell, by the time I'd put a trip together, he might not even remember me! I'd be like a new woman to him and he'd be excited to go??!!

What wonderful memories you have - looked like a perfect wedding. What a handsome pair - no wonder you married him. I think the saddest thing about alzheimers is losing the memories - I imagine its harder on the family than the one who forgets.

I feel blessed that it's taken to 78 to be so noticeable. His little sister was pretty bad still in her 60s (she's recently had to be institutionalized). I don't know how old his mother was when she started showing signs.

So, we just take it one day at a time. He was a handsome old fart, wasn't he?

PS: We just happened to be heading to the Cook Islands around the time of our 25th...I asked him if he wanted to do a renewal on the beach. His reply? "No. Twice was enough."

Did ya slap him?

We renewed ours at 13 years....so I asked Ernie when we hit the 30 year mark, if he would do it again....he said the same thing..."did it twice, I think it took!!" But he did say, when we are closer to 50 years, he may do it again.... In November we'll have 33 years...only 17 more years to go to the Big 50....

My 5 siblings and I are going thru the trials of Alzheimers right now with our Mom...so can relate....she's still at home with my 1 sister....and it is hard...we've discovered that it is better to have a sence of humor and laugh than it is to cry....( sorry my spelling is so awful, but I think you all get my drift. )
